I have been in a stall since March 1 after losing 12 lbs in 2 months. I was a very high diabetic risk when I started in January. I stuck it out and my sugar levels have come down to normal and I have not had to take my insulin as often at night. This is the good part. Now I am looking for anwsers to the question of "when will my weight start coming off more consistantly"? I do Fitday every day and my rations have been well with in the ranges required. I have taken the advise of the board and increased my veggies and calories. When I increase my veggies, my sugar rises so I have kept them at a minimum with just salad. Any suggestions as to how I can jump start my weight loss?

Re: staying the course with Diabetes 11
try eat around 65-73% fat 25-30% protein 3% carbs
eat lots of eggs/butter/fatty cuts of red meat and dont forget omega-3
excersise alot do full body muscle work outs work every last muscle on your body HARD abbs, arms, chest, legs etc
go to a gym and find a trainer to help show you how to excersise properly and how to get every muscle on your body but remmber dont talk to your trainer about the Atkins diet
eat less carbohydrates if your fat loss is stalling
medications can cause big problems with weight loss try and become medication free
if you cant go to a gym or trainer then do at home excersise and make sure you learn how to do them properly so you dont hurt yourself and so you work the muscle good and again make sure you work your muscles HARD
a little cardio like excersise is good too try and do as high resistance as you can for about 10-13 mins but take it VERY SLOW at first for the first few months if you have never done it before
dont eat aspartame or soy
when you excersise your muscles hard it burns the glucose out of them so the little bit of carbs you do eat are all sucked up by your muscles so in other words better fat loss

Re: staying the course with Diabetes 11
I try to get in 20 carbs a day. I will try to reduce them and still have good results with my blood sugar. Last night I did not take my insulin because my sugars were low and when I checked it this morning my BS was great. Maybe I am moving into the no insulin mode. I have already reduced my glyburide and metformin slightly. keep my carbs low may help. Its worth a few days of trying. My fat and protein ratios have been good.sigpicOriginal start wt: 269.5 January 1 03

Re: staying the course with Diabetes 11
hi Audrey -- I just finished putting my food for today in Fitday - today my ratio's were 67/25/8 ... yesterday 66/27/7 day before 57/32/11 ..... I am still slowly loosing weight and am keeping my carbs between 25 and 35 daily. As far as veggies making your blood sugars go up you need to try some other veggies other than just salad. I googled vegetables low on the glycemic index, those are what you need to stick with -- they are easiest on your blood sugars. Asparagus, Bell Peppers, Broccoli, Brussels Sprouts, Cauliflower, Cabbage, Green beans, mushrooms....try some of these as your additional 5 net carbs on Rung 1 .... try 1 every other day to see how your body reacts to them. Luckily my body doesn't have any trouble handling any of these but you need to find out how you do.
Because you are diabetic you need to eat enough daily so please don't reduce your carbs any lower than they are now. Drink plenty of water (which I know you are doing) and walk or do some light calistenics daily. My mom uses tomato soup cans for resistance and does arm curls with them...she is slowly getting her strength back after a long illness. We are also walking every night to get her legs strengthened back up.
I hope you will try eating different veggies and increasing your carbs - you can't let your body go into a starvation mode. Actually, once I started eating more carbs (finding which foods I could eat comfortably took a little work) I have been consistantly loosing about a pound a week. Not spectacular results but good enough for the mediciation I'm on - and also I'm in this for the long run so 1 pound a week is fine with me.
Good luck sweetie!!Carole_____________________May Water 130oz daily

Re: staying the course with Diabetes 11
Carole, yes, I am adding those veggies today. I felt going low carb, high fat was not the way a diabetic should go. I did try it to see if it would work on me. I have lost that 1/2 pound but I lost it before I reduced my carbs so low. Today I am back on salad (peppers, cucumber, celery and mixed greens) and I will also have a cup of veggies with dinner such as cauliflower mash potato, string beans. I am on coumidin so I should not it a lot of green things, although I have not been that good about it. My INR is being checked today. I am happy and walking now. Tell you more as we talk. My best for the messages. AudreysigpicOriginal start wt: 269.5 January 1 03
