  • New to the board

Hello to everyone! My name is Cherie and I am new to the board. I was diagnosed with PCOS and Type II diabetes in July. My doctor told me then and there to quit eating carbs, just quit it. So I did. And it lasted a month. I lost 10 pounds and felt great, then I slowly started allowing myself to eat carbs again and felt aweful, so i told myself that I would just eat "healthy carbs," such as whole wheat pasta, brown rice etc. No, I still felt terrible and I started gaining inches back but surprisingly no pounds on the scale. When I first started the diet I was walking every day also and eventually got busy and quit. So realizing my error I got online and ordered Dr. Atkins Diabetes book, and am starting back on my daily walks immediatly. Very excited about losing this weight. I gained it when I had my children and right now am at 199. Also, excited about getting healthy. Oh, and I am on 15 mg of actos right now, I was on metphormine but it made me sick.

Look forward to getting to know everyone!

    Welcome to ADBB!

The Induction phase of Atkins is not a zero-carb plan. You should still be eating carbohydrates, mostly in the form of low-carb vegetables. In OWL, you can add back fresh cheeses, nuts, fruits, starchy vegetables and grains (and alcohol, if you drink).

The book you need for weight loss is "Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution" (2002).

Sorry, I should probably clarify, when my doctor said to get rid of carbs he meant the bad ones. Like white flour anything. He said if possible do not even eat a lot of the whole wheat stuff.

As far as induction is going I am doing well, I have lost 4 pounds so far and am starting to feel pretty good. Hope everyone else is doing well. Would love to hear more "positive" things from you guys. Hugs!

        Welcome!

Reading Dr. Atkins Diabetic Revolution book is great! It's a good companion to DANDR ... from what I understand, the diabetes book has different ways of "doing Atkins" than DANDR ...

I'm quoting myself, which often means I did a boo boo... In OWL, one also adds back legumes. I should know better since I'm on OWL Rung 6.
