I know I need to keep an eye on my blood sugar dropping too low, and I haven't ever had that worry! I'm one of those medical marvels doctors look at and wonder "why haven't you had a heart attack or stroke yet?" My blood sugars were averaging 200, and getting as high as 250. I had one doctor all but cuss me out and put me on 500 mg Metformin a day. I ended up with another doctor due to a change in insurance providors (not that I would have stayed with her anyway) and he put me on 1000 mg twice a day. I take supplements too, but my BG never really came down for long and I averaged 170. But I (re)started Atkins just this Monday and my blood sugars PLUMMETED! I tested yesterday morning and it was 170, yesterday afternoon it was 125, this morning it was 146 and this afternoon it was 107!!!! So, I'm going to keep an eye on it and if it drops too low, I'll knock off a couple of the supplements. I'll be seeing the doctor next month and he might not like Atkins for the 2700 tryglicerides I have (and about 800 Cholesterol) but he'll be thrilled by the weight loss and low blood sugar numbers.

Re: Plummeting BG
My triglicerides and cholesterol numbers have gone to the "normal" catagory thanks to Atkins. Also, I was diagnosed with fatty liver which is now gone. My numbers run in the low 100's all the time now and I feel so much better. I also take Metformin 1000 mg twice a day but with my next visit with the endocinologist she said she may lower the dosage or take me off it completely since my numbers have been good the last 2 blood checks.
Couple of questions: What is your A1C reading? And why do you think 107 is too low? Because of the fact your numbers have been so high for so long you should ask your doctor what he thinks your average numbers should be.Carole_____________________May Water 130oz daily

Re: Plummeting BG
I honestly don't remember what my A1C's were, but I know they threw my doc into a tizzy. It has spiked to 12.
I don't think 107 is too low, but if my BG keeps going down like this, I'm wondering if it could get too low. I think 60 is the magic number before it's considered too low. I don't think I could actually get that low unless I just quit eating. But the fact that it plummeted so far so fast just made me remember there is an opposite to high BG.

Re: Plummeting BG
After the first few days on Atkins my blood sugar numbers also dropped but it's not a bad thing --- it's what your body needs to get your diabetes under control. I post my numbers everyday on the diabetic chat thread -- you can see where I started 2 weeks ago and where I am now. I feel so much better when my numbers are low.
Keep up the good work!Carole_____________________May Water 130oz daily
