  • Hello!

    Hello all,

I am new to ADBB, and enjoying reading all the posts and the information, it has been so very helpful!

I have been diagnosed with DM2 for about 3 years. Of course I spent the first couple of years denying that I had a problem, then I was forced to go to the MD for an illness. (I am an RN, and you know...those nurses...do not like to go to the MD at all!) Well, it came back that my Hgb A1C was 10! My fasting blood sugar was horrible, and my body was hurting, tired and overstressed.

Well, I got myself in gear and really decided that this was the time for me to take care of myself. It also helped that I resigned my position at the hospital and was able to stay at home with the children, NO more night shifts...yeah! I started on Atkins induction, and have done really well.

But I have noticed that I have tried to move into OWL with the first rung, and my fasting blood sugars are not staying in the range that I need them to be (80-100). I still have about 80 more pounds to lose. I have been exercising about 3 times a week, and slowly increasing time and days. (Although this week was a no-go, since I injured my knee on Sunday! :-(

Has anyone else delt with this? I have been doing some research to find out some information, but have been unsuccessful!

    Thanks again!

    Re: Hello!

    Hi Caroline
perhaps your body just needs time to adjust. Have you been taking any medication? In comparison to the last time I tried Atkis, when I wasn't on any diabetic 2 meds, my blood sugar levels improved faster and better. I stopped taking the meds in February and end of March I began with this WOE again. My fasting blood sugar levels did instantly improved again, but as said, not as good as other times before. I blame my age, weight and of course the meds, my body was used too.

Anyhow... how long ago has it been since your HbA1C came back with 10? How many weeks have gone by? I get mine checked every 3 - 4 months.

      Re: Hello!

My Hgb A1C was drawn mid-March, so it has been a "few" weeks. I will be returning to the MD early part of June.

I re-read the Atkins Diabetes Revolution Book and found some info that I had passed by quickly the first time around. He (actually Dr Vernon) stated that some people actually have to stay at 20 grams and let there blood levels improve, and may have to stay there for quite some time.

I am not going to rush it, I will be taking it very slowly and taking my time. It took years for this insidious disease to creep up and bite me, and now it is going to take some time to get it back under control and not rush it.

I started taking some of the supplements that he talked about in his book, with the consent of MD, she was all for it, and I have noticed a difference. I have stopped one med completely and have cut another down into a 1/4 of the original dose, and also have cut another one in 1/2. So progress right?

Thank you so much for the input! Hope that you are progressing well. That is great that you are not taking any DM meds at this time. I think that sometimes they make it worse than better! How has your HGB A1C been doing?

      Take care
