    Re: Eating Disorders..anyone..?

well clincally that would not qualify u as having an ED, however if u feel it rules your life then be careful that it does not become a full blown ED cuz i started just obsessing hten kt got worse.. just think only 7 more lbs though so that is great.. congrats, maybe talkt ot a nutritionist to get htose last few off, of start a new topic here and see what those others did to lose the last few.. good luck..

      Re: Eating Disorders..anyone..?

I don't know that anyone here is qualified to determine what's "clinically diagnosable" and what's not. The bottom line is that it's an issue for you, wonderwoman, and that qualifies as needing support regardless.

At 5 foot 8 inches, I question whether your goal weight is healthy for you by any stretch! I'd strongly suggest talking to your doctor to be sure that your goal weight is truly reasonable for you and your frame.

That aside - if you're obsessing about it, then there's an issue. If it's ruling your days, then you should find ways to address it. It doesn't matter if it's 7lbs or 207lbs. Your 7lbs are no more or less important to you than anyone else's weight issue is to them!

I'm a big fan of journaling, wonderwoman. It know that it helps me keep track of where my head is and what's going on in my life when these things really become issues for me and it helps me to center myself.

You don't have to struggle through all of this alone. There are professionals out there who can help you address your issue.

ED's come in all shapes, sizes, and with all sorts of different symptoms.

I go through spats of purging..here and there...never anorexia...always liked binging and purging because to me it was easy, and easy way to erase the fact I just ate almost a whole pizza to myself and everything else in front of me...

Imma emotional eater and I used to curb my depression by taking myself out to eat and getting tons and tons of food to only get home and wanna throw up everything and forget that happened....blah...I've never typied this out either so I know how u all feel...

Angie, I know all about binging and after much reading on the subject I've realized that it really just comes down to you. You fighting that urge and replacing it with a healthy snack if you're hungry or a nonfood escape- walking, this board, journaling, etc. I too battle this demon and since I've come to realize that I can stop this habit and understand that it does have effect on me and like any addiction will continue to be a struggle. But, hopefully with time and patience it gets easier! Like other people told me recently-- the first step is acknowledging it as a problem and you have done that!

                Re: Eating Disorders..anyone..?

                ((((((Angie))))))

One of the good things about getting your addiction out is you now you got it and you know its only mental. you are so right about the comforting and curing blues with food cause it actualy can help because many many foods have natural chemicals in themthat minic good neurotransmitters and out brains have a fantastic filing system so it knows what food "fixed" what problem and keeps prescribing that food combination every time it notices you are feeling that way even before you notice it. Unfortunately the "fix" is temp so you want to do it again and again.

Once you identify what exactly you are trying to cure with the food, stress anger, bordome, sadness, etc, you can find other nonfood ways to give your brain the same chemicals like exercise for anger boredom or stress andyour brain don't know it got worked out instead of food all it knows is suddenly those feeling bad chems have been removed and it has some happy chems too.

The longer you go resisting the food and subbing a non food "cure" the weaker our brains signals for those food cures gets and the stronger the urge to do the nonfood cure gets.

                You can do it.

i have never thrown up or starved myself but i eat when i am stressed and bored, and I consider that my own little "eating disorder" b/c i'm not eating when I'm hungry like i really should. I think that is the reason why I still have those 8 lbs on me, and can't seem to shake them off.

                      agree with every word

                      sometimes were strong
                      and sometime we weaken .........

when im stressed old habits resurface.........and its a fight to regain control
sometimes it just seems easier to allow the e/d to take back control

i find talking about it to helps a lot
i know a lot of friends who hide because they feel its to shamefull to discuss
and because they are depressed they natrually just want to with draw from the world

I completely agree with what you just said, liverlady. I feel like when I get down/depressed from time to time, I eat a lot more. I eat when my husband gets mad at me. I eat when the kids are all screaming and when it seems impossible to deal with 3 3 year olds (triplets). I have found that exercise has helped me deal with my eating issues, but I do find that most of my eating happens b/t 5-8pm, and I'm really debating whether I should move my workout to that time of the day to change things up a bit and to cut off my emotional stress eating quite a bit. Hmmmmm...

wonderwoman at least youve spotted your peak times you binge .......and the reasons you do it
i find the evenings/and late nights the worse to
normally when everyones gone to bed and i think no one will notice
but for a few minutes of pleasure ..........the weight gain just knocks you back to feelin awfull
feelin great about your self effects everything (my first step was getting medication and then changeing my outlook on life and started to look after myself)
if i stick to atkins ....lose weight.....everyone notices
they love mum being happy and being fulll of energy

ive noticed if i do binge /purge .........for about a week afterwards im like a zombie no energy .......get very tearfull and get really negative

i keep makeing excuses not to excersize
to tired.......have to get on with my housework....the kids and hubby laugh at mum trying to get fit....dont have time before work (but i do sit and watch tv )
and worse i feel guilty for haveing time alone when i feel i should be looking after my kids and hubby

i admire you haveing triplets and fitting in excersize
                          you deserve a medal

well if you all had triplets, you would probably FIND the time to workout because you just can't be around 3 three year olds all day long, grocery shop, pay the bills, keep the house clean, get the kids ready/baths/mealtimes/cooking. You would say to yourself, like I have to myself, "My life is so out of control busy, and I am very overwhelmed all the time. What can I do about it?" I take it to the gym. (and I take the 3 with me and there are people to watch the kids, and the kids actually have fun and like it) I sweat it out around 830 every morning. It's my time to myself. I don't feel guilty because my life is so out of control. You all should really feel the same way, as I'm sure your lives are somewhat out of control, too! That is what goes on these days...we pile up duty after chore, after errand, and we don't stop. Exercise is that time for YOU. I bring my headphones and I get to watch TV while working out. (I don't have the TV on at home ever with the kids around b/c I don't want them seeing what's out there these days!) I watch Regis and Kelly every morning. I love it. If you can find a gym where you have your own tv on your exercise equipment, it gets you there!
See, though, my problem is the rest of the day---I come home, have lunch (low in carbs) and then the rest of the day, I snack a lot, and for dinner, I have a very light one, but then i have about 3 dinners if you count all of my snacking! So, I wish I could say that I could cut it out, but I don't think I could do that cold turkey. I think if I cut it down to half as much, and then to cold turkey, it will eventually retrain my stomach??? What do you all think on that? It's just that I've always got the munchies at nite. I wish I didn't!
Let me know what you all do to unwind at nite. Any tips/advice? I hope I helped you all on the exercise thing. DON'T feel guilty. Sorry this is so long.
