  • my latest discovery/connection

So we are in a cold spell here in Warsaw so my car hasn't started for about 3 days, my dishwasher broke down, my daughter is having a week break from school- all of this stuff is beyond my control which is causing me to crave sugar.
I have just figured it out, which is a good thing. I am a control freak who when not in control reaches for chocolate. Now that I know what my problem is what do I do.
Ultimately these things I mentioned are not problems but more inconvieniences- except my daughter of course, we are having fun. And it does make sense looking back on my eating habits. When things don't go to plan and I don't have control the cravings hit.
Anyone else like this? What do we do? How does a control freak give up control?

actually you don't have to give up control. You have conditioned your body to use the pharacological chems in chocolate to make you feel better whenever you were out of control and your Dr Brain remembers this as it does remember how all foods effect your mood and other things. It has a vast storage warehouse filled with those informational memories and realizing you were feeling what you were feeling went searching in those informational files for something that would back you feel better. It found a very old remedy with a very good track record and prescribed it foer you.

So you need to say no thank you I'm using a newer thing to treat this. Then do whatever you have decided to use. Keep using it to calm you when you feel out of control and soon your brains neropathways to the chocolate and sugar will weaken and the ones to the new fix will strengthen. ( this is where the exercising your willpower makes it stronger theory comes from) As long as you consistantly use the new fix and recieve a "cure" your brain will stop the sugar Rx. BUT if you waver and grab the choclate then it will once again be the drug of choice for your brain.

So now you need to figure out what path you want to go to ease yourself when you feel out of control. Yoga and meditation? reading a relaxing book? playing with your kid? drinking a cup of ice water and enjoying the surroundings? whatever you decide will be fine if in fact it does make you feel better. it is not about control it is about how you feel when you can't control somehting like the dishwasher breaking.
