  • ketosis....yay!

i'm coming up to the 4th day of induction, having fallen off the wagon 6 times in the last few weeks. the thing is going into ketosis is SUCH a relief. i am not a slave to my carbaholic addiction, and that in itself is stabilising my blood sugar levels, and suddenly i find i don't need sleeping pills any more, and just generally feel so much better. i can look at cakes, even when i'm really down, and am really not that interested. forget even losing the weight....just not to have manic phases of stuffing my face with comfort food is a HUGE relief, i can tell you. i'm starting to feel again, that i have control of my life, not that life has control of me!

Hi, Knight, we call it ketosis when we are in lipolysis, 'fat burning for energy' mode, instead of glycolosis, 'carb burning for energy' mode. When you keep your carbs low but eat liberal fat and some protein as well, you go into lipolysis. While you are burning fats for energy instead of carbs, your cravings subside, and you usually get a nice energy burst. Your body is saying, 'burn fat for energy? I have plenty of that, yoohoo!' For me, I feel more clearheaded as well.

As you burn fat for energy, your own fat cells, you lose weight. Folks can sometimes tell they are in 'fat burning mode' by a change in their breath, or they use sticks to test their urine.

        Oh, and good job Micki!
