  • Binged...need support

    Hi all,

Binge eating is perhaps my biggest challenge at the moment and has been for some time. Today was day #2 of Induction for me, and I spent all day yesterday buying/planning/preparing food. So I have a TON of legal yummy food around. My problem was I ate lunch at noon and despite having preplanned snacks at work, I did not have time to EAT them so I came home at 7pm FAMISHED and proceeded to eat FIVE of the mini-quiches I had carefully prepared yesterday. I may even have had 6. I had them all rationed out, 2 for breakfast for the next 3 days, but I was so hungry when I got home and those were the tastiest and easiest thing to grab. I almost ate more since I had already 'blown' it, but managed to stop. I was definitely not hungry anymore.

So, for the day, I ate:

2 quiche muffin things for breakfast
2 cups salad with 3/4 cup tuna salad
    2 string cheese
    2 hard boiled eggs
FIVE or maybe SIX quiche muffin things
crispy cheese taco shell with shredded pork/salsa/sour cream

I am stuffed and disappointed, as I went over my cheese limit although I think my carbs are still under the 20grams per day. Did I blow it on day #2 induction already????

    Feel defeated, please encourage me!

Dont worry your only on day 2, it takes some getting used to this WOE. Just try to stick to the rules of Induction. Remember to drink lots of water and exercise which will help burn those extra carbs off. Good luck!

          Hey Partytrouble,

These guys are right - don't get disheartened, at least you binged on legal foods. Make sure that you drink your water to help you get on track.

Also, you need to plan to ensure this won't happen again. Can you have your work break re-arranged in order to eat your snacks on time? Or maybe eat at your desk (not sure what kind of job you have) though not always possible. Put the food for the next few days in sealed containers at the back of the fridge. If you need extra motivation stick a warning note or your before photo on the box to stop you in your tracks!

Also, make sure you are eating enough calories - if not you will find it hard to stop binging. Worth a check on fitday. Also remember once you're in fat burning mode it will get much easier to resist temptation, so don't despair.

Finally are you getting enough veg - I can see only 2 cups in your menu - unless salsa counts. You might want to include some 'heavy' veg like zucchini, broccoli, cabbage etc to give you nutrients and fibre beyond just the salad.

            Re: Binged...need support

Thanks so much! I was a little nervous about how I measured out the lettuce (don't have a scale yet, buying on this weekend!) so while I think I measured 2 cups, I didn't want to underestimate. But I do have cut up cauliflower in 1 cup portions to eat in the evening after my 2 cup salad for the rest of the week. I think eating the veggies is a hard concept to wrap my mind around, although I KNOW it is healthy and necessary....so easy to overindulge, IMO.

I definitely need to make time at work to eat....I work in a busy medical practice and if patients are waiting to see me I just have to run from one exam room to the next, and it often takes far longer than the alloted time....but I will HAVE to find time to have a snack, because i was so FAMISHED after not eating for 7 hours I binged. Granted, legal binge, but as anyone who has ever struggled with binge eating/emotional eating knows you could binge on cucumbers and still feel terrible that you binged.

This is a really helpful forum for me, as I feel like my binging is a 'secret' and definitely something I try to hide from others. I am working on the stress eating. From what I recall, I had much less of a stress eating response last time I lost weight on Atkins so I am hoping the appetite suppression kicks in soon (day 3 today!)

Great idea about the before pic!! Ghastly to imagine seeing that photo every day on the tupperware with quiche in it!! Another idea is that i think I should only make half batches of the mini quiches at a time....having 12 of them in a tupperware is just too tempting. I have read if you struggle with binge eating or emotional eating, you are supposed to STOCK your kitchen with the very things that make you binge, so that they become 'legal' in your mind and you don't crave, but somehow I have never jumped on that bus!!!!

Thanks Baarb. BTW, you look GREAT!!!

              Thanks Partytrouble ,

I can see why you'd want to eat after 7 hours - I'd eat my own arm by that stage!

I can't see how stocking up on binge foods would help - if I'd stocked up on cookies before Atkins they'd have been gone in a trice.

Good luck finding time for food in your busy job

Thanks so much! I managed to eat a snack this afternoon which was GREAT, but didn't get home until 9pm so too late to eat dinner or it will just be sitting in my stomach when I try to go to sleep. Will have to do better tomorrow!

Partytrouble, A new Saab convertable is a good gift to yourself. I have one and love it. I spend about four hours a day commuting, so it was worth every cent...........Dawn I also have binging problems too.

I can't wait for that convertible!! What color is yours? I think I want a white one. BTW, I have managed to not binge since about day 4 of Induction, I think the appetite suppressing finally kicked in. Thanks to all for the support. I am sure I will binge again, and it seems to be largely emotional eating....anxiety/boredom being the main culprits.

Binging makes me feel so horrible, and absolutely discourages me as well. Whenever I do it, it makes feel as I've ruined my whole diet and I might as well have a doughnut as well. So glad to see that you got back in the funk

thanks for the support. to be honest, i didn't even KNOW i was a binge eater until the last year or two...i just thought i was hungry all the time and my brain didn't have a hunger turn off button. the power of the mind, in denial, is amazing.
