  • The bad year I had correlated with my weight gain

Looking back at 2004, I have had a tough year. I also gained 30lbs of my unwanted weight back. It is important for me to stay at a low BMI as I have PCOS and all of my dreaded symptoms worsen when I am overweight.

It seems that whenever I am sad or angry, instead of allowing those emotions to surface and deal with them like a normal person, I binge.

At my lowest point I would do this several times a day and I put on around 30lbs in a month.

I am currently trying to lose this weight again.

I need some support and advice. :confused

Hi Deniz :wave :wave :wave Glad that you found us and great post. I think that half the battle is to understand what the problem is, don't you. I don't even need to have any excuse for eating a gallon of ice cream.
So, are you doing Atkins, low carb or what is your plan of choice.
The book DANDR is our bible and does talk about emotional eating, have you read it.
Start a journal, either here or other sites like atkins.com or fitday.com have places for private journals if you prefer. The good thing about doing it here is that folks can comment and hold your hand when you need it and kick your butt when you need that also. LOL (I get a lot of butt kicking on my journal)
Join an exercise challenge. I think exercise really helps with stress.
And grab a buddy, someone you can chat with and talk to and help eachother.

    41 pounds down and counting

        Hi, Deniz,
I am an emotional eater, too. I have been on atkins for about 7 months and this WOE, and especially the exercise, seems to help me temper my emotions. When I feel stressed, angry, sad, bored, out of control, or want to just binge, I do 2 things. One is read this board the other is workout, no matter what. It really helps me.
        Hang in there,

          Hi everyone!

          :wave

Thanks so much for reading my message and replying!

I feel better knowing there are other people out there that know what it is like to be trapped in an emotional eating bubble.

I am currently doing Atkins. It is my second cheat free day. I would like to join a support group for emotional eaters and read the manual you spoke about. Did it help you?

Do any of you get bored of Atkins? Sometimes I want a bit more variety, but the positive effects are so much that I dont want to switch to any other diet.

I was thinking of doing the CAD diet (cab addicts) but the reward meal which allows you to eat carbs frighten me.

Have any of you tried it?

For now, speak soon and take car :yes

First of all, it is obvious that your mind is scattered in a million different places.
You are on Day2 of clean induction which is not an easy thing to do. Why would you be thinking of doing another diet! You need to focus on one or the other and make a committment. Personally I think that you should hang in there with us, but that's a personal choice.
Sooo reign in your thoughts and cocentrate on what you are doing in the here and now.
            Much success to you.

PS Look at the before & after pictures. That's what is keeping me going.

Hi, I saw your post and please remeber induction is a minimum of 2 weeks and then you can start moving up OWL. You can add new foods every week until you find your CCLL. Anyway look at OWL and see the foods you have to look forward to. This WOE is not limiting at all. There is so much available just around the corner.

Faced with huge adversity - EATING OUT

I was faced with many adverse situations today, I went out to eat with my family. They all ate fajitas, icecream, nachos and cocktails, basically all the good stuff!

Instead of the fajitas I ate fried chicken prawn and beef strips fried in a skillet with peppers and some avocado and sour cream. I replaced the cocktail with some carbonated water, and skipped desert.

I feel so much better already, I feel as though my cravings are almost gone. I didnt even feel like cheating. :yes :joy

Mum filled the cupboards with those giant cookies and crisps but I took one look and didnt have to fight myself to stop.

One thing I am worried abou :help t is I am not yet in ketosis, the strips come up beige - nil. I started induction yesterday morning, it is now 10 pm in the evening the next day. Is this normal?

The fact that your appetite is dwindling is a very good sign of ketosis. Keep it up. You did wonderfully tonight. It must make you feel such a sense of accommplishment.

                  PS
I went and paid good money for my strips and they never had color, so I just stopped using them. I don't think that they are all that accurate so don't dwell on the results of the sticks. You might want to post in the Induction forum and ask there.
Good Luck and try to post daily.
