I have a problem with not getting enough calories, and not realizing it. I've been eating an average of 700, on a good day. I'm not sure what to do. I'm not hungry between meals, and we simply don't have a lot of money to spend on food right now. I eat 3 meals a day and snack when I can, but I don't know what else to do.

Re: Anorexia
What I would suggest would be to try planning more calorie rich foods into your diet. I'm still pretty new to atkins myself, but from what i've read that would be the best way to up your calorie count.

Re: Anorexia
The lack of hunger is the bitter sweet part of Atkins but 700 calories does seem a bit low. I would suggest that you maybe add some kind of a shake supplement that is loaded with nutrients and vitamins if you can. You can not mess around with your health. Take care of you. I am sure there are a lot of people here on the forum who have some more insight but again, you really need to make your health a priority!sigpic

Re: Anorexia
I have been having trouble getting enough calories too for a while. Mine is much better but I hated forcing myself to eat late at night. One thing that I started doing is drinking 1/4 cup of cream in the morning (2 oz). I get the maufacturing cream from restaurant supply places (Smart and final) or some Costco or Sams carries it. It is up to 40% butterfat. It ups my fat and my calories. I also eat 1/2 of an avocado because you get more fat and calories. If you eat things that are more nutrient and calorie dense, you don't have to eat more volume of food but you will get more calories. What rung are you on? Can you have nuts yet? Macadamia nuts are high in calories and fat and yummy!

Re: Anorexia
I too drink cream but I dont do it all at once because of my gallstones, I cant take in huge amounts of fat at once or I am in pain. Instead I take a little sip everytime I go to the fridge. So rich and creamy its almost like Im eating something IM not supposed to.
I too have a hard time keeping cals up. The cream helps.Mindy

Re: Anorexia
I just wanted to add (due to the title of this thread): Because you are not eating your daily bmr of calories does not make you an anorexic. Anorexia is a very serious and sometimes deadly disease/mental illness, that is far more compliated than 'not eating enough', and should not be taken lightly.
If anyone is honestly concerned that they have an eating disorder such as anorexia, bullemia etc, you should seek medical attention immediately.Jen, 39, F

Oh yeah, I thought maybe it was just mistitled. See my recent post in this section about my struggle with anorexia, bulemia, and food addiction.Mindy

Re: Anorexia
There is a hormone called CKK that in the presense of protein shuts off appetite. You may know the sucker bet about eating 6 hard boiled eggs or a gallon of skim milk all at once without vomiting. It is impossible. Protein may be shutting down your appetite.
