  • Anyone have a remedy for PMS?

I hate to be a cliche' but when TOM rolls around I typically have a severe emotional reaction. Major PMS. I just feel extremely depressed and I want to eat more than I should. I'm still sticking to Atkins, but I'm having trouble with portions and with cravings. I want to yell at someone and I want to be hugged hard by someone. Yeah, I'm being crazy.

TOM does crazy things to me too. Cure? get a gun and some targets
Seriously though, a vitamin b complex, plus primose oil and borage oil is meant to help. As for the cravings, I just make sure I have plenty of legal snacks and food around so I'm not overly tempted to buy out the candy aisle.

i got rid of my period...

I get off each month...I mean wayyy off. I ended up talking to my doctor and talking to her for a solution. We decided to put me on birth control pills round the month. I only get my period once every three months this way and the third month is very controlled. I know what Atkins says about birth control pills but the reality is they help me be sane.

I eat a little extra of the legal foods. I usually have cream cheese on celery, something about all that crunching and chewing gets the PMS out of me! I also take Premsyn PMS, you can buy it at the grocery store. It helps with bloating and headache and mellows me out. If I forget to take it, my DH reminds me!

You might try adding some ground flax seed to your woe too. They have natural estrogen and for some reason really diminished my pms symptoms.

Re: Anyone have a remedy for PMS?

I do believe that we all experience this in some degree. But if we can really try and get busy. And I mean that literally. I find that the busier my schedule is during that week I have more control of my eating habits. I am an emotional eater and I know it. So if I am busy I don't have time to feel emotions. And since during that time of the month they are real crazy I make sure my schedule is also. So deliberately plan things around that "time of the month". See if it works for you too! Good luck

Pamprin works wonders. It also helps alleviate bloating and backache as well as irritability.

                  1. Get pregnant
                  2. Have a hysterectomy
                  3. Try Evening Primrose Oil capsules. They are amazing. Start now, and next month won't be nearly so bad.
                  4. Ask your doctor to put you into a drug-induced coma every 28 days......mine won't, but I keep asking, in case he changes his mind.

For me, writing helps a LOT.

I mean, you have all this excess emotion going on (mood swings, etc) so why not put it to use? I've found I've written some amazing things during heavy PMS cycles, and when I read it later on sometimes it doesn't even sound like me.

Also, it's really really hard to give in to cravings when you're concentrating so hard on what you're writing, and it's too messy to eat and write at the same time.

I don't think it really matters what you write, but if you make it something personal, it can really pull all that icky stuff like crankiness out of you onto the paper.

Ooh, and I find eating salmon alot prior to my cycle helps as well. I had no idea why, but I did a little research and found this (lucky us, most things look legal! Not all, but enough to make me happy.)

Forgive me for asking, I hope I don't sound insensative because I really don't mean to be. I want to ask you ladies a question about that TOM. Please keep in mind that I am just a stupid man who knows nothing about this topic

For about 3-4 days every month I get beat up and yelled at. The beating up doesn't hurt too much. (unless she mistakenly hits me in a sensative area) However it doesn't go over well with me because I don't feel respected when she does it, not to mention its really annoying.

I don't do anything wrong to deserve it. At least I don't think I do anything wrong. The smallest thing seems to trigger it, things that normally mean nothing.

Then after she treats me like dirt she wants me to hug her.

What do you all think ? Is TOM an acceptable reason/excuse for being nasty and beating up your boyfriend/husband? Enlighten me

There is NO excuse for physicial abuse. Have your wife discuss this with her physician. I also suggest that you contact a domestic abuse center too, as they might have some suggestions for you.

                        Good luck.

Re: Anyone have a remedy for PMS?

It's a very valid question, Rhuobhe. People (myself included) joke around about PMS, so if you've never experienced it, it can be hard to put all the comments into perspective.

Not every woman has the same response to the fluctuations in hormones, so you can see a variety of things that are lumped under "PMS" but you don't have to have all of them to have PMS.

Some of the common complaints are mood swings, irritibility, cravings, bloating (retaining water (being puffy)), breast sensitivity, increase in libido, decrease in libido, and cramping.

It is never acceptable to hit someone else. Even if you were provoking her, she needs another response. Chances are you're not provoking her, either. So, she needs to quit. Or you need to call the cops. Even if you're not hurt, she's assaulting you and it needs to stop. No excuses.

Now, I get mood swings like crazy. Everybody knew when my period was coming. Me - Everyone else - I can tell you that I most definitely didn't want to be that way, but I couldn't prevent it. What I could do is control myself. Being frustrated or nasty or teary is one thing, but hitting someone is completely different.

I hate having PMS and I hate being touchy about freaking everything every month and I do want attention and sympathy from my boyfriend. However, I know that hormones don't negate the rules of society.

                          Good luck.

Well I was in the throes of PMS yesterday, severe depressing...ovalulation cramps...it was lovely.

After an Atkins Friendly day..and dinner, when the Boys were in the other room, I snuck 8 pieces of chocolate and put natural peanut butter on each piece and wolfed it down.

Now I felt better physically after doing that dastardly deed, but felt horrible mentally because I broke with my diet.

Today its is passing but I still feel out of whack. I really don't know what to do about it when it hits me that hard, and God Forbid, any of the males in my household be supportive.
