  • layoffs & a desire to binge...

    ugh.

    I'm a big time emotional eater. Depression/stress = pizza =\

i've been on this diet since Jan 1st & am doing really well, but today has been rough. We had layoffs at our company today & it was so heartbreaking that it took allot NOT to just take the opportunity to say screw it, i'm getting a pizza.

the quicker i get to bed, the more likely i'll stick to my resolve, so i'm off to sleep.

    PS. LAYOFFS REALLY SUCK.

Stay focused. These are hard economic times for us all. My heart goes out to all of those that have lost their jobs or those whose jobs are in jeopardy. Try a high fat snack like cheese or something before breaking your cycle. It's so hard to get back on track once you fall off, plus it could set you back weeks and you have worked so hard. You are 8lbs away from your next goal. Stay focused.

Hey, girlie!! Glad to see you posting. I've been wondering how you're doing!! Hang in there. It's tough all over. The economy really stinks right now. I think it's a time our generation has no experience with. We don't remember too well the tough time our parents may have faced in the 80's. The current economic downturn is certainly keeping me in a J.O.B. I detest. I just know it's time to sit tight for a few years...maybe go back to school or finish a book I started many years ago. It's frustrating because we'd like to see rapid forward progress with all aspects of our life, but improving my health, fitness and body seems to be the only thing I CAN control right now. Quite frankly, sometimes even controlling the body is the challenge of the week!! So, know we're in the same boat with you. You're not sailing on that ship alone! Let me hear from you soon!

I can't imagine being in a company that's part of lay offs. My DH is 1/2 laid off and I actually just resigned from my job this week in order to just substitute for a while (a crazy saga but better for my family). Stress and depression grabs you really hard sometimes. We just have stay focused on the positives and reach for our faith deep inside ourselves.

stress is a KILLER! ugh. i've been there and done that too. do STAY FOCUSED as best as you can. just remind yourself that you don't want to ADD to the stress by sacrificing all your hard work and better health. you need to be fit and healthy to deal with all of this. get out and WALK when the stress hits. at least it is positive (and healthy). good luck and hang in there. times are hard all over right now but as they say "tough times don't last but tough people DO!"

Re: layoffs & a desire to binge...

god i totaly understand where you're coming from. i lost my job, flat, car, savings, everything in just over a year, and ended up seriously bing eating and not going out.
its so hard sometimes. but binge eating doesnt make anything bettter,it just makes things worse.

i read that we binge eat when upset, because we crave that happy feeling, and when you eat you get that feeling, but it doesnt last.

just remember BINGING WILL NOT MAKE ANYTHING BETTER.it wont make you happy,it will make you feel awful. it wont solve any problems, it will only create another one, extra weight.

if you really cannot hold back, then binge on high protein foods at leats, have a huge steak with cheese or something. thats what i did the other day.i was so stressed out,but i am so determined to loose weight, that i ended up having 4 massive home made mince meat burgers, smothered in olive oil.i know it was soo fattening, but at least its better than what i would used to binge on,like chips and icecream.
just dont go back to bad habits.

Re: layoffs & a desire to binge...

Thank you so much for sharing. Its so awesome that you DIDNT binge. It takes something to choose not to do that. Maybe ask yourself --- what is it that you really need right now? Do you need to talk to a friend in person? Do you need to vent and cry?

Oftentimes I use overeating to try to fulfill an urgent emotional need -- the food never actually addresses the need, though. So it is helpful to clarify when I want to binge -- WHAT do I REALLY NEED?

It's just got to get better. I wish all the folks in the Government would get off their duffs and do something instead of 'talking; about it.
