  • How slow can you go? The run/walk 5k exercise challenge.

I spent 8 months attempting to get myself through the couch-to-5k running training programme and still haven't made it to the point I can run 5k without loads of walk breaks, but I decided to try a 5k race anyway. I was last every step of the way round, but it was such a huge acheivement for me, and I had so much encouragement both from the officials at the race and everyone here on this board I thought I'd try to encourage everyone else to have a go.

The question is, is it possible for anyone to complete a 5k race either running or running/walking and take *longer* than 56 minutes? Or do I hold the world record for the slowest runner?

Anyone want to take up the challenge?

Its great that you had the encouragement from the officials and everyone else.

I believe that is the beauty of running, it doesnt matter if you win or lose, you are really just competing against yourself.

Congrats, and I am sure that you arent the slowest runner. There are millions of people that spend 99% of their lives sitting in front of the TV.

I'm with Richt on this one..........a huge "Ya don good" to you :yes and,

Yes, running for me is all about competing against myself........or NOT! just as that day and that moment plays it out!

I run with a little MP5 player with a bunch of my favorite artists performing some of my absolutely most favorite energizing music. When I run it's all about me! This is my time and I do it my way. It's one hour in the day when I am totaly and absolutely selfish. It is my time and my run.

So, weather you run your 5K in 55 minutes or in 1 hour and 55 minutes, it does not matter! What matters is what you put into it and consequently what you get out of it.....cause this is your run and you do it for you.

Enjoy the moment and your accomplishment!

That is an AWESOME accomplishment!! :icondance You should be giving yourself a HUGE pat on the back and a good smelling bubble bath!

My hubby & I did a 5K walk last year. I need surgery on my foot so walking is painful and I cannot run. I don't know what our time was. I did it for the exercise (and free t-shirt), not for time. I was totally exhausted afterwards though.

See how far you've come? Now that you know you can finish, you can work on your time if that's one of your goals :joy
