  • Is there a non-treadmill challenge for walking/distance?

I've looked, but I want to make sure I'm not missing anything that's available. I'd love to join a group and challenge myself to X number of miles in X amount of time, but I don't have a treadmill and do all my walking in the trails in my nearby state park.

    Thanks guys (and gals!)

I know we have cool running, which is for running, and the treadmill challenge I do with my gazelle, so I'd ask in those threads, I don't think anything is set in stone! I know that the treadmill challenge is one you can commit to miles in such amount of time. Maybe they won't mind that you're walking it! I"m not sure about the cool running challenge, but can't hurt to ask!

I used to do the outdoors walking for fitness thing on the blocks around my neighborhood. If the trails aren't marked out to X amount of miles per area then maybe you could go some place where you could get in the car and hit the odometer and drive a certain path and find out exactly when one mile came up. Then go and walk that mile just as you would at the state park, keeping up with how many minutes it took you. Use that time to estimate how many miles you walk in the park by how many minutes it takes you. I personally go by minutes per month rather than distance, but maybe that can be of some help to you.

Hi blue, the trails I use are marked for every 1/10th of a mile, so I'm able to know exactly how far I'm going during each walk. If they weren't marked, I'd definitely be using a pedometer to determine the distance, I really like knowing how far I've gone each time, in addition to the minutes spent. Since I'm really new to this, it's nice to see that I'm improving by being able to go faster or go further in the same amount of time than I have previously. It's nice to see that a distance I struggled with on day 1 is no sweat now, and that the walking is having a noticeable effect on the level of exertion I can comfortably take. I have visions of the day I break out into a run.

Perhaps you could do a poll or something and see if their are a few people who would be interested in doing a challenge with you, and you could start your own! That would be cool, and they are so much fun!!!

          Best of luck to you!!

PS...you are always welcome to sign up in the Any Exercise Machine Challenge. I don't see how anyone would have a problem with that!!!

            thanks for offering that j!

lookingforward, if you do the poll , you might be good to do it in the exericse forum. i think more people browse that forum because they are looking for something. once you see there is an interest, start yourself a little challenge in this forom. make it monthly, quarterly, by the mile or hardly any rules at all. it's up to you. good luck with this! it's always good to see new challenges. there's something for everyone!

I did join both of those, 2big! And I LOVE them, can't wait to rise to the challenge(s)! I was just really interested in a distance-oriented challenge, the distance always makes it sound so much bigger to me, for some reason. Just a mental thing for me, I think. To say I walked the distance from Chicago to Milwaukee, or something like that, just makes it sound like a tremendous accomplishment. But I can always have that as my personal goal within the pres challenge and 6wec!
