Jimmie... how cool a reaction from your colleague! My brother's amazement was similar when I told him about Everest... we were climbing it for the first time, back then. He still asks me where in the world I am... and how far up!!

Penelo... congrats on your recent completions.

I assume this is an open entry challenge? I would like to join if ya'll don't mind. So I guess my first task is to choose a destination and second would be to get started climbing....right? Should I start with one from the virtual climbs (mountains or buildings)? Sorry for so many questions...I just don't want to screw up.

                  Thank you!

don't worry about the questions, we'll answer what we can.

yep, it's open for anyone to start at anytime and it's a go-at-your-own pace type of challenge. and we certainly don't mind having another challenger, we love having new challengers!

my advice would be to start with the buildings. it's easy to get several of those done and the sense of accomplishment comes quicker than with those mountains. there are two sets of buildings and you are welcome to pick and start either one. i wouldn't worry about the worksheet. most of us found that after a few climbs, it was kinda useless. but use the list that you find on the worksheet to see what you want to climb.

Thank you jimmie for your quick response. I guess I will start with Millenium Dome, England 320 steps / 21 flights. Do I need to do daily updates in this thread or keep track on my own and post when completed?

in this challenge, you keep your own stats. you can post your activity but it isn't necessary. what we do like to see is when you finish whatever you are climbing. when you post that, i mark it on the spreadsheet.
the spreadsheet i have made lets me know who climbed what and shows all of our numbers from the time we started this challenge. it also shows me when you are ready to earn an award.

thanks for updating in this challenge, too, barrnone.

sal, i'm keeping up flight-to-flight with you. it's keeping me on my toes, no time for slacking off.
i had lost my pedometer last week and i notified a guy at work so he could let others know just in case somebody came across it. this was the same guy who asked about kilimanjaro. when i later notified him that i had found it he replied in an email, "Good, I wouldn't want you to have to start Kilimanjaro all over again". lol he didn't understand that the pedometer and flights were two different things but i thought it was neat that he remembered our previous conversation.

an update for jack: he is still slow and steady on mont blanc. 1809/2028
my excess flights are going toward mont blanc. my count on that mountain is 1040/2028

Hope I'm not keeping you on your toes too much! Actually, the last couple of days have been a little slower... succumbed to the lift (elevator) a couple of times. Stiff knees is my excuse!

Are you in a pedometer challenge Jimmie, or just keeping track of steps on your own? Haven't checked, but I thought the challenge faded away shortly after a few of us dropped out...

I too have a few excess flights after reaching a couple of base camps. Haven't put them towards anything this time... can't seem to find time to decide what to make my "interim" climb. Need an extra 12 hours in each day! Grrrr!
