    There is no need to count calories. The Atkins Nutritional Approach counts grams of carbohydrates instead of calories.

    Although there is no need to count calories, they do matter. Gaining weight results from taking inmore calories than you expend through exercise, thermogenesis (the body's own heat production) and other metabolic functions. Research has shown that on a controlled carbohydrate program, more calories are burned than in a low-fat/high carb diet, so there is a certain metabolic advantage to the controlled carb approach. But understand that this does not give you license to gorge.

    So far this month I have burned 1000 calories. 442 on the 1st and 558 today. The first was 45 minutes on the bike and today was the same plus 20 minutes on weights.

    Who all is going to join in???

    I did 552 calories yesterday doing 45 minutes on the bike and 20 minutes on weights and then did 478 calories this morning doing 10 minutes on the bike, 20 minutes on weights, and 35 minutes walking.

          1963 calories burnt this morning whilst running a half marathon

          It never ceases to amaze me of how easy and how effective this ***diet*** is!!




          I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

            Richt, Great job! Wowww!!!

            About 20 more pounds and then maybe I can start running! I don't think these old legs of mine can handle the pounding quite yet. I did get in one hour though of brisk walking for 539 calories this morning.

                    2 miles on the treadmill - 330 calories
                    15 minutes on eliptical trainer - 219 calories
