Re: New Couch To 5 K Program

I haven't been on in a while but, I'm still running. I decided to split up week 5 and six longer.... So i have done week 5 day 1 twice and week five day 2 once. my next run is on monday and i am going to do week 5 day2 again.

I really see a difference and I'm sooo happy

      Hi! I'm still here...
2 two milers and 2 three milers... but then Thursday rested and Friday just did walk run and that was mostly walking... (tired) today I walked with dh 3 miles... On Monday I'll see how I feel... and start running again. I'm trying to go with what I feel like, instead of pushing myself too hard. I'm thrilled though that I ran as much as I did! Poor doggie... I am taking her out afterwards in the golf cart and letting her run. It gets her exersize in much faster! but she knows I leave without her and she cries... I feel bad, but not bad enough! he he! I just don't get the fascination with all the smells!

Hi Kekabeka. It is perfectly ok to split up week 5 and 6 longer. This challenge is more about YOU and what you feel comfortable with. Whatever it takes to get you to the goal!

Glad you are seeing a difference! This really does work!

Great job on all of the running, Liz. Isn't it fun to take an "off" day and do a nice long walk. It's like a treat, isn't it?

Yes, this challenge is about not pushing yourself too hard. I'm a firm believer that if you push yourself too hard, you'll harm yourself and feel defeated and drop off. We won't have that!

          Keep it up!

Re: New Couch To 5 K Program

OK ......... toe surgery and now winter made me back off the challenge a few months ago BUT I got a tread mill yesterday for Christmas and am ready to jump back in again .......... I imagine running on a treadmill will not be the same as running out doors but I am hoping to be ready to get back outside and run come spring and hopefully so a "real" 5K run this spring!

Doing my first run in a few minutes!

What a terrific Christmas gift, Heidi! Starting training for a 5K on the treadmill is perfect. I was told to change the incline to 1-2% to simulate running outside. Let us know how your run went.

Re: New Couch To 5 K Program

Hello! My first run back on the program went great. I did a 3% incline and walked at 3.6 and jogged at 4.8 I don't know what MPH actually "counts" as a jog or a brisk walk but those felt good to me. If there is an official number or something I should shoot for let me know please. It feels so good to be back doing this again ........ maybe it's mental ( in my head I mean) but I have felt like I really needed to get back into the running to get my weight to move again.

                Thanks for doing this challenge!

Re: New Couch To 5 K Program

Heidi, the mph is fine. There is no 'set" mph to follow. You just go as fast as you feel comfortable with. You should not be so winded that you can't hold a conversation. There are some days that I'm just flying by at 5mph, there are other days that my energy isn't as great, and I'll jog at 3.9 mph.

Don't you just love a challenge that doesn't have any set rules like that?

off-topic, I love your family's Christmas picture. Beautiful!

Hello Heidi! Congratulations on completing Week 1.

I'm glad you are enjoying your running. I commend you for sticking to the structure of this program. You're right, it is set up this way for a reason. The main thing is avoiding burn-out and injuries.

                          Keep up the great work!

I am going this challenge because my MIL and I want to run in a mini marathon this year. I had no clue where to start, but this looks like the best program for me.

Hi Michele! It's great to see you here. The C25K is a great place to start training for your minimarathon. In around 6 weeks or so, you'll be able to run 3 miles! Incredible to think about!

Keep us posted on you how you are doing.

I sent the link to my MIL so she can start too

I will be starting on Monday, January 7 full speed. I have been walking about a mile or so for the past 2 1/2 weeks, so hopefully that will help!

I can't believe I will be able to run 3 miles. I don't know if I have ever done that before! I am so excited!!
