  • April Stability Ball Challenge... sign up and reporting thread

Our usual leader is taking some time off so in her stead, here I am.

If you're looking for a new challenge that will work on your core and help you with stability and strength, this is for you!!

Incorporating the stability ball into your usual routine will challenge your body in new ways and break up the monotony of exercises that have gone a bit stale.

Need some ideas about which exercises to use with a stability ball? YouTube has all kinds of videos!

    YOUTUBE STABILITY BALL EXERCISES

More SB exercises can be found by clicking on the following, SPARK PEOPLE

Exercises that count in this challenge include, but are NOT limited to, the following:

    lying hamstring curls
    tricep extensions
    reverse crunches
    lying leg press
    push ups
    jackknife
    stretching
    slow swim
    side plank
    seated leg extension
    bridge ball squats
    rows
    stability ball exercise tapes/DVD's

Basically, any exercise that you do using your stability ball will count!

NOTE: Please state how many minutes you are committing to for the month in this thread and then check in at least twice a week. Make sure you state the days you worked out along with its minutes. At the end of the month, I will tally up the minutes and post the goalies in the Celebration Forum and hand out awards!

I'm in. However, I'll be away from the uni (read "gym") a lot this month, so going only for 200 minutes.

the warmer, busier months are upon most of us now. i know for me, april will begin to really be a busy time. therefore i'm cutting my numbers back to 250 minutes, i guess. i know without the challenge i won't do near as many so this is to keep me active with this exercise. .

now is this just for time on the ball? I can fit this into my evenings but I have no idea how long it will take me to do the various exercises. Is there an amount of time one should stay on? I've never thought about doing an acutal workout on the ball...I've only used it for crunches before, I do have DVDs at home, I'll dust one of those off.

yes, we state how many minutes you will use the ball for exercise. this can be anything from stretching, pushups, crunches, in conjunction with with weights or those stretchy bands. you can use dvd's, tapes, youtube and sparkpeople for instructions and how to's, if needed.

as far as your personal commitment of minutes, i would just go less minutes this month and see how you do. i've been at this for quite some time and you can see i've reduced my minutes to 250 this month.
you might want to start with pledging 5 minutes per day during april which would be a total of 150 minutes. some days you might do 2 minutes, some days you might do 20 but so long as you do the 150, you would earn the award.

Ok, I love the idea of pledging minutes! It makes one look at exercise differently, suddenly it is not a chore to be done but a challenge...against myself...this is brilliant!

              I pledge 150 minutes!

cool beans, bbb. and just for clarity, all you have to do in this challenge for reporting is just state the day and the minutes. for example, like this:

                April 1 6 minutes

i'll take care of adding them up and posting updates.
