Happy Birthday, Sarah! I'm glad you're able to exercise again. I think you look younger too. I ran two miles yesterday (walked six minutes, ran 21), swam for 45 minutes this morning and did my lower body weight training (an hour after work.

I ran my 2.6 mile route after supper tonight. Probably not my best idea I've had, I should've waited a bit after dinner, but anyway. I tied my best 2.6 mile time at 25:32. I was cramping like crazy, but I flew on the way out and had a 12:16 split at 1.3 miles. I think if I did the same in the morning I'd have a better time.

Oh yeah, Happy Birthday Sarah (in case I forget tomorrow)

Enjoyed reading through this weeks thread and so great to see all these runners this morning, and all. We returned from our camping trip last evening---I did not do a great job resisting camp food this trip and have placed myself back on induction for the next two weeks. And, I'm recommitting myself to getting to goal; 30 pounds to lose, so my aim to help ya celebrate in December is by being at goal too.

I did, however, get my bum outside this morning and run 4 miles in 45 minutes. This weekend there's a 5K fast race on Saturday and a 10K run on Sunday. I haven't done a run or race with others so this would be my first venture. Which should I do? urplequ: Just as a refresher, I typically run 4 to 6.5 miles, getting out 4x a week for about 20 miles a week. HEY, I just thought of something----I've been running for a year now too!!!

Just ran my tail off. 5 miles, beat my best split by 1:35 and my best time by 2:10, for a time of 46:41 (23:34 split for 2.5miles).

                  So I was cranking.

My time improvements since last fall.
2.6 miles 34:00 to 25:32 (tied last night)
                  5.0 miles 58:06 to 46:41 (today)

                  I'm pretty happy.

                      Hello Cool Runners...

I would love to start running, and I feel like making a post about it is the first step to doing it! :P I have not been doing much in the way of exercise at all. I try to go for a walk a few times a week. I walked only about 1 mile today, and my legs were so sore!

Now for a "confession". Two years ago, I finished 2 full-length, 26.2 mile marathons. I finished both in under 6 hours. While I still think this is a great accomplishment, I am also very aware that I've since gained 50 pounds and now can't walk a mile without hurting. It's shocking how quickly I fell out of shape, and damnit, I'd like to get back in shape.

In the next week, I'd like to run 1 mile (walk breaks ok). That's my goal, it's been documented. If I don't come back on the CR thread to post my results, you have my permission to hunt me down and demand results! :whip

                        Happy birthday, Sarah!

And welcome to our newcomers - you'll find, like I did, that this is the most inspiring and encouraging place on the net :wave

I've recovered from my 10k on Sunday. I ran the route again on Tuesday (10 mins slower...) and picked up a 'caution - runners' sign that had been missed and dropped it off at the organisers house.

Wednesday I spent about 5 1/2 hours shifting the (not quite) tenants furniture back out of the house and into their new place. I was handed a heavy box of books out of the back of the van and I tried to balance it on my rather large tum to help support it only to nearly drop the whole lot as my tum seems to have diminished rather and the box slid down almost to my knees before I managed to get it back under control. :yes It was a jolly good workout!

Less than 2 weeks till moving day so I'm not going to increase my exercise any - just try to keep things ticking over and get used to my new 6 mile run/walk route.

As a new 'goal' I've decided that one day I'm going to run a marathon, and I'm going to see if I can still swim after 20 years and train up for a triathlon. I'm not sure how long it will take to train, bearing in mind I walked for 8 months before I could even attempt to run, and then it took another 8 months before I could run most of a 5k. I'm 38 now, so sometime between when I'm 40 and 45 should be a reasonable time schedule, I think.

And, in the last couple of weeks since I upped my training, I've lost 2" off my butt!!! I don't know about any weight as my scales are already 1500 miles away.

Betty - I love your new picture. Those 12' walls are impressive!!!

Man Ester you inspire me way to go on the 2 inches that is so awesome. I really want to get out and do more but, my kids make it hard for me. I suppose I could always pack them up and take them with me hey. I think I would probably walk though cause it I ran I think I would die pushing an extra 40 or so pounds.

It's running day for me today so I am hoping to get on the old treadmill about 1 or so.

Hello, everyone. I have just completed two weeks of running!!! YEAH!! My running schedule is as follows.

                            Sun-- 6am--4 miles
                            Mon --Off
                            Tues-- 5am--4miles
Wed--5am--3 miles-- Tae Bo 1hr afternoon
                            Thurs--5am--4miles
Friday--5am--3 miles-- Tae Bo 1hr afternoon
                            Sat--Off

It pretty much follows the pattern I practiced with for CC in high school. Let me know if this seems efficient or not. Also I have not yet purchased a heart rate monitor, waiting on the funds, but I am doing 4 miles in @40-55min. On the days that I do 3 miles, I walk 1 mile after. Does this seem like a good pace? Should I speed up, slow down, run futher? I wake up at 5am to get my run done before my 3 & 4yr old wake up and my hubby gets ready for work. I could wake up earlier if I should be running further, but yikes!! Thank all of you in advance for any advice. You are all a major inspiration!!!

                              Texwife&mom,

First let me say that I am a complete rookie and absolutely no expert. But I think that is a great schedule, I wish I could fit that many runs in (but I am trying to). As far as speed and distance, I think that it's a very individual thing. As long as you are pushing yourself (but not too hard) and trying to improve either speed or distance I think whatever you do is good.

I push myself a little harder each time I run. Once my times get lower, I'll add distance, then work on my times again. That's my strategy, whether it's a good one or not I don't know. But for me, no strategy is no direction and I'll end up laying on the couch watching tv instead of bettering myself.
                              Jim

Thank you for the advice!!! I am not training for a race or event at this time, I am just wondering about "cutting the fat". I will just keep trying to be consistant, and add distance as I pick up the pace? Your pics are awesome what a change!!
