  • BAD BAD BAD KNEES

Other than swimming, does anyone have any advice on exercising that does not involve knees. (this includes walking)

I need knee replacements but want to lose 200 lbs. first so it will be easier.

The obvious suggestion is upper body weights and sit ups.

It never ceases to amaze me of how easy and how effective this ***diet*** is!!

I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

Bad knees run in my family. :sadblinky I don't have as much weight to lose as you do, but my knees still bothered me a lot when I first started exercising, and when I do more intense stuff, they still give me a bit of trouble. My knees actually make crunching noises.

My trainer told me to use the elliptical because you burn more calories on it and it is no impact, but gives you the workout you'd get from walking/jogging. She also said that by losing weight and strengthening/building my muscles, I would avoid my mothers fate of knee replacement surgery.

When I started, I could barely eek out a minute on the elliptical and now I'm up to 45 minutes on it. :joy

        Good luck to you!

LOL! Thanks Betty! When I first started I would look at the people using the elliptical and how long they had been on it - and I'd think GOOD HEAVENS, are they on drugs!?! LOL! :yikes I could never last that long! But my trainer assured me that I'd be able to do it too, that I'd just have to build up to it and she was right. I look back at my cardio log and can see how I was able to go a little bit longer each time! :yes

I know what you mean ... when I first started running, I couldn't even do 1/2 mile ... :yikes Now, give me 13!! Its amazing dedication, persistence and discipline can accomplish, even for an old lady like me!
