Sorry I post the tech stuf and the 2BIG brain just starts leaking out.

you are welcome and remember too that even though Dr Atkins calls it low protein our 30% protein intake is 300 times the amount the high carb eaters are getting in a normal food diet so your muscles are covered and like I posted we have to break down a protein to activate the growth factors for muscle building so you need to be busting up those proteins and ester converting them too.

I coulnd't get to the website

There was a screen that said the site was parked with a domain finding service. I tried but couldn't get to the site you are referring to. Please advise.

Thanks for the info. about heartrate at 70% of max. - I will check that out - I have had the same concern as Mitscher - my target rate is 110 and that seems like I'm standing still. I have a slow heart rate though - so it sounds like I may have to stay there?

          Re: Fat Burning Exercise

I couldn't find what article all of you read so I will start walking more. The gym has been my workout for a while but since the weather is turning nice I will get out and pound the pavement. It seems that you are all doing very well. I have a personal trainer at the gym to help me strengthen my knee so that in the near future I can have knee replacement surgery. But in the meantime I am trying to lose as much weight as I can.
          Thanks for the information.

            Re: Fat Burning Exercise

It looks like they took the article down and now only have sponsored links to sites selling weight loss stuff. I'd recommend removing the sticky as we are only giving them more traffic that they don't deserve. Unless that article is hiding there somewhere that I can't find?

              Re: Fat Burning Exercise

The walking/cardio is necessary, but... don't forget to do some kind of weight, resistance or circuit training regularly, because lean muscle mass helps the body to burn fat much more easily (and for those of us getting up in years- it's good for the bones).

Hi folks, i don't know if any of you have ever heard of kettlebells, but they are an amazing way to work out. You can shoot your heart rate through the roof, build up amazing core strength and add stretching and general muscle elongation, all in one routine! They seem daunting when you first look at the exercises but if you can find a CERTIFIED kettlebell personal trainer to teach you the ropes, they are well worth the effort. you can start really light and increase the load as you get stronger and gain endurance. I do them three days a week and in only a month i can see a huge amount of difference in my functional strength (i.e. even things like walking up stairs, getting out of bed, getting off the couch - all of these were a pain three weeks ago and now i can do them without thinking about them). I have lifted free weights for 20 years and i must say, i MUCH prefer kettlebell lifting to free weight lifting.

And no, i'm not being paid by any kettlebell organizations - just throwing my two cents in.

anyone who is interested, I'd be happy to point you to a number of websites which offer discussions on the advantages and drawbacks of kettlebell lifting.

                cheers,

                Chris

I got this Bowflex treadclimber and it rocks! At 3.5 mph walking, I can really tell I am working out harder than the treadmill, and my ankles and calves dont get sore....if your gym has one I recommend it!

                          Re: Fat Burning Exercise

I heard about walking being the best exercise so thats what I do.....I just walk and walk and walk and its been working wonders! Im a believer now! I went hiking with some friends today, and they are all skinnier and I outdid them! I was sooo happy that my breathe didnt run out at the top of the hill. I was fine and they were gasping for air....I also am beginning to use incline....I know its a little extreme but I put my incline to 8.5 or 9 and walk for 20 minutes then walk on an incline of 4 for 20 minutes then I just keep going in that pattern until I have walked for an hour or two. I also go to the gym while my faviourate hour long shows are on and watch them as I walk...it makes the time go by really fast!!!

Is it true that walking is better than running for weight loss? As long as they are done for the same distance or time is it not the samw

                                Re: Fat Burning Exercise

New science suggests that the old thought of long slow, or long medium rate cardio is dead. Optimal way to burn fat, and build a strong heart is High Intensity cardio. Search on Tabata Protocols, or go to cbass.com (article 12) and read about it there. Or just watch biggest loser, notice how they are constantly doing HIT, what we learned in the 80's and 90's is old science. Obviously doing something is better than nothing, bet there are ways to get more for your minute.
