  • The Numbers Are In!

    Hey All,
As many of you know, I just finished a 445 mile bike tour (It was actually 525 but because of the weather I didn't ride parts of the tour!) I did get in 445 miles for the week!
This morning I decided to weigh in! I lost a total of 4 lbs from the tour. I also lost an inch off my bust/hips! So it was a successful tour! I'm anxious to continue my training for next year and to continue to get the rest of this weight off.

Thanks for being in my corner!
    Be well-

P.S. Happy Anniversary to me and my hubby! 25 years ago today we were married! We've been on the honeymoon ever since! Ain't love grand!

*I've done it for so long that it's just fun for me. If you break up the day it really helps. I ride about 10-15 miles, take a break, get off the bike, get food/drink, stretch out, then get back on and ride 10-15 more miles then stop and do the same thing all over again. If I have a tail wind I may go as far as the wind will blow me then stop. But it really is fun!

      And Happy Anniversary!
      *Thanks so much!

Thanks! I do feel great! I'm looking forward to cycling throughout this year and into 2006. I'm hoping to be at goal weight by next BRAN. I felt pretty good by the end of the ride. It's going to be really incredible to ride weighing 60lbs lighter!

            Thanks for the encouragement!

Thanks so much for taking the time to encourage me! I really appreciate it! I hope that others might take up cycling. About 9 years ago I was in really poor shape. I weighed more than I had ever weighed in my life (including when I was 9 months preggo with my girls!) At that time I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia (a muscle ailment in the rhumetism area) The doctor prescribes some medication but he said the best thing I could do would be to lose weight and start exercising. So I went out the next day and bought a $50.00 Huffy mountain bike. I started riding and never looked back. Cycling is addictive! It is a great exercise/sport but it is also an incredible 'stress buster'. It aids not only my body but the environment and with the cost of gas I'll be saving a bundle this summer just by riding.
Anyway, if you haven't tried it please do!
By the way, what beautiful children in the photos! They grow up so fast! I remember when my girls were that little! Now they are 20 and 15!

Thanks again for sharing with me! I appreciate it!

I'm sorry! Do you lube up before you ride? My butt hurts when I ride too but I've built up callouses and it doesn't hurt too much any more. I had alot of pain in my feet this year though and that was due to the fact that my bike shoes are too tight. I'm going to buy some different shoes today so hopefully that problem will be taken care of. The weather here in Nebraska is beautiful for riding! (GO BIG RED!! The College World Series opens on Friday and our beloved Huskers are playing. There was such an outcry for tickets that they had to do a 'lottery' to be fair. We're hoping for great success from them!)

Hey! How about those Huskers! It's going to be pure pandemonia here in the big O when our beloved Huskers come in Friday night to play ASU! They have a huge chance of taking the whole thing!

*I know what you're talking about and you're not alone! That seems to be a male problem of huge proportions! You say you already have a seat that's cut out in the back? Usually that lessens the pressure alot! You might want to go to your local bike shop and ask them about positioning. It's amazing how much they can help and how just changing a few degrees in the way your seat is raised/lowered can help. And/or they might have some other solutions for you.
Lubing up: Before I ride I make sure that I put on a lubricant that will keep my bode from rubbing against my cycling shorts/seat. The friction causes 'butt burn' big time. It's in the exact same place you're talking about but it's a skin issue for women. I use Balmax. It's the same thing I used on my girls' diaper rash when they were little. There is a ton of that kind of thing on the market but I don't ride without using some kind of lubricant, especially when you're hot/sweaty. I re-apply it after I ride/shower to take care of any rash that might've developed. If you're not doing that do your self a favor and start lubing up. It will make a huge difference.

Hang in there! btw what kind of bike do you ride? I ride a Cannondale Road bike.

I have this old cannondale X bike which is good for neither roads nor off roads. It's like a road bike with mt bike handles but no shox.
I got some slicks put on it that help the ride and the new seat but my butt still hurts.
I've been doing so much running lately I haven't had a chance to get on it.
One thing I'm going to try is raise the handlebars and see if that helps.

                              Hey Iapetus999,
I would really encourage you to take it in to a bike shop. Unless you really know bikes, they have so many suggestions. I know I've been in to my shop and just by lowering the handle bars I had a better ride. I wouldn't have noticed that myself. They have all sorts of little 'tricks' that they can do to help you have a better ride.
They would also be able to help you with the 'sore butt syndrome' but I'm thinking that you probably just need to 'break yourself in' for the cycling season. I go through that sore butt thing once a year. That's why this year I'm not going to stop riding. I figure if I keep riding year long, I won't have to go through that 'transition period'.

                              Hang in there!
