eliptical machines are great...though that one doesn't seem to have that wide of a motion range...maybe you want to try a gazelle? I don't know much about the different kinds, but I use a Precor EFX (super expensive gym model) and it is the best ever!

Not that I've used it but that model looks a little lame to me.
I guess I'm spoiled by the models they have at the gym.
If price is an issue you should go on EBay and also check the local papers.
Most of the local papers' classified can be searched online nowadays.

Also $132 should be enough to get like 6 months at a basic gym.

Usually the Y has all the good machines...just not that many of them and not the top models (they buy them used at auctions sometimes). Also like any other gym the Y can get crowded at times.
For someone just starting out its an excellent place and I think most Y's have trainers and classes.
It's really not which gym that matters...it's the individual's effort. Also most gyms will let you work out for free for a day.

Look online for a deal like at http://www.craigslist.org and click on your city. There are good deals there and sometimes people are giving great things away. Good Luck. I have an Elliptical and its a good overall machine.

                      Re: Elleptical MAchines

I have an elliptical machine. It is a little more extensive (and expensive) than the Wal-Mart model, I'm sure. I got it at an exercise equipment supply store. The gym at the Base gets a lot of their equipment there, as well. They delivered and assembled it, as well, which is a wonderful thing (we also got a multi-gym - if that's the proper name for equipment which has multiple exercises and weight plates). We considered a bow flex, but were told it's better (more consistent) to use the weight plates, as you get the same resistance on the exertion and the return of the exercise.

I'm not sure if I'd rather have a treadmill, or actually both, and a rower, too.

I think, given the opportunity, I'd like to have a gym membership, and then I could use any or all of the above.

                        Re: Elleptical MAchines

although a lot of equipment is expensive if you check the classifieds & yard sales there is a LOT of practically new exercise equipment available for a mere fraction of the original cost being sold by people who bought it w/the best intentions, never really used it & now want to get rid of it for any price just to free up the space it's taking up. There is no need to pay high prices for home gym equipment believe me, just look around a little bit

I have a practically brand new Nordic Track worth $900 I bought for $30 just to take it away, I was looking for spare parts for mine instead of ordering them I looked for a used one, now my original one I bought for list price is the one I will use when I need spare parts for the one I bought for $30 (which was much newer) lol
I try to take one day at a time but sometimes several days attack me at once
