  • Bought a HRM today

OK, my watch died. Thought it was the battery, but after replacing it twice in three days I need to send it out, it's worth fixing.

But I need to run tonight. I'm not gonna buy a stopwatch, which I'll never use again, and I was eventually gonna buy an HRM, sooo...

I got the polar S210. I was looking at the F11 and it has stuff I really didn't need (like the software to design a program for you). The S210 is more geared to runners and has more features but all ones I would use eventually.

I was really nervous about not getting enough for what I need or getting more than I need. I hope I made the right decision.

Yes I'm eating a smore in the picture, how do you think I got so fat?

I bought a polar S32? at sears last week, marked down from 140 to 70 bucks, i really really like it and with it's help I've gone from 3 miles a day to at least 4. Good luck with it! Sometimes when I go above my range and it starts beeping people look at me like i'm a bomb. It's really funny,

      That dang HRM is addicting.
It's like a slave master. I want to run faster but it's making me run slow.
I did like 6.5 miles in 1:26 today...avg HR of 152....which technically is still too high for my "long run" :anger

Still felt completely dead. To stay in "fat burning" mode I would have had to keep my HR like 142 or something...that's like walking speed.

Great news, Jim!! I know you will grow to love it.

Iapetus, I agree, at times, it does seem like you're going way too slow and you could crawl faster. But the truth is, you'll burn more fat at a slower pace, so you're doing GREAT! :nod I don't know if its hot and humid where you are, but those conditions ALWAYS make your HR faster.
I don't get too worried if I'm at the top end of my zone this time of year, because my body is working harder to thrust myself through that THICK HUMID AIR and also to cool itself down. Its okay if you're not always at the low end ...

Congratulations Polar owners!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MINE!! In a year of running with it, I've logged 236 hours of running time, and burned over 88,000 calories! Talk about motivating!!

        ENJOY THEM!

This is Seattle...cold, cloudy, and humid.
Or when it's sunny it's dry.
Seattle is 1/2 way between a rainforest and a desert...which one we get depends on which way the wind blows.

I bought the Polar A3. I keep my heart rate in the 140s when doing my cardio, and I have found that I'm now able to go longer. I'm at 45 minutes on the elliptical now and I could go longer, but usually my feetsies start hurting, so I give in to that and stop.

There was a lady on the elliptical next to me on Saturday and she was going really fast and she pooped out after 5 minutes. She looked over at my timer and asked how I lasted so long, and I explained the heart rate deal/fat burning, etc, and how I had increased my workout time. I had to laugh because her response was that she wanted to burn her fat as fast as possible. Okaaaaaayyyy. LOL!

Anyway, I'm glad I made the investment in the HRM..! :nod
