  • cant sweat

    Hi,

Im not sure whats wrong with me but I cant break a sweat. Im walking and doing a stationary bike. When I first started the bike, I did 5 minutes and was totally tired. Now I can do 40 minutes on level 3, but I dont sweat. I live in TX and its very hot hear. I can go out walking in 100 degree heat for 30 minute and my skin might be slighly damp. I see other people just standing around out there who are sweating up a storm.

At first I thought I was dehydrated, but now I drink almost 150 oz of water.

    Whats wrong with me?

    Thanks

Sweating is your body's way of cooling its self off and if you are unable to sweat I would definately get this checked out by a MD. You could overheat and have a heat stroke. It's not healthy not to be able to sweat. :no

May I suggest a 5 mile run here in central Florida? If you can't sweat after that, then DEFINITELY see a doctor.

Some people sweat ALOT .. my husband is one of those people. He could sweat in a blizzard. Matter of fact, when we lived in Nebraska, I saw the sweat FREEZE to his face...

I think there can be medical reasons for this, so you might want to see a doctor.

I'm a sweater - BIG TIME! Especially my head. It pours off of me, especially up there and I seem to have hot spots on my head that sweat more than others. I look really purty after a workout - LOL! :icondance :icondance

I've never perspired as much as most people and I think it's a blessing! LOL! Personally, I don't think it's much to worry about.

When I work out in a gym the sweat is literally pouring off me but outside I barely notice it.
I couldn't finding anything on webmd.com about it.
If you notice your skin turning really red without much sweating that is a symptom of heat stroke. :vomit

The medical term is Anhidrosis or Hypohidrosis - the inability to sweat or decreased sweating.

Can be dangerous and can be related to other diseases. I'd see a doctor, specifically an endocrinologist.

                cant break a sweat

                Hi,

Thanks for all the posts. Darn, I just had my general exam too. I never thought to ask. I think I will try to kick it up a notch and see what happens. Its could be that Im not walking or biking fast enough because I really dont feel hot either. If I dont get anything, then I guess its back to the doctors. :sadblinky

I thought it might have something to do with being over weight and having lived such a sedentary lifestyle for the last 4 years. When I was thin I used to run 10 miles a day on the tread mill. I'd sweat like a pig.

                Thanks again,
