You will have some muscular pain after working out with weights initially. But something you might want to do BEFORE you work out is to warm your muscles up. You might try some light activity before you lift or even some very easy stretching. I also take a pain reliever either before or right after I work out for the first time. I know for myself that I always stretch out AFTER I work out with weights. Another suggestion is if you have access to a jacuzzi take advantage of it (or a very warm bath at home) These things have helped to reduce muscular pain for me in the past.
I agree with what the others have written as well. I would also suggest this: Get a different trainer. If you have a negative attitude about the person who is training you then mentally you are defeated. Find someone who will take the time to answer your questions, explain body mechanics to you and who will sympathize (to a point) with your soreness. Otherwise you're wasting your money.

    Hang in there!

I warmup a little then stretch then warm up some more then I do the weights and stretch afterwards.

He's one of the best trainers in the city. It's my own fault 'cause I told him that I was working out but couldn't feel it in my muscles. He made sure that I could feel it in my muscles I guess.

        Hey wannabethintoo,

I warmup a little then stretch then warm up some more then I do the weights and stretch afterwards.

        *Excellent!

*But how good is he if you dread going to your sessions? And how much good is it doing you if you feel overworked and you're getting no understanding from him? You said he was 'one' of the best...who else rivals him? Truly, I would look around. I use to go to the premiere chiropractor in my city but he didn't have evening hours. I was always late and he would scold me for not being consistent. Yet, he could not accomodate me so I went back to my old one. It will take longer with my old one but I didn't need the stress of being yelled at because I couldn't make my appointments. So now I'm getting better, maybe a bit slower but I don't have all that stress. Just a thought.

        Take care!

hmm I don't know about you, but I think a LOT of people dread their first few training sessions...sometimes being worked out pretty hard is what you need...probably why he's considered one of the best! I would personally want someone as a trainer that could push me to my limits, so I could get maximum results...now if he's MEAN to you, that's different, but if he is just working you out hard, try to stick with it! You'll see fantastic results...remember, this is his job, he wants his $, he is trying to help you, not make you feel fat or weak. Just be very upfront with him, and if you don't like the way he does something tell him, he might have a good reason for it.

My first trainer I had I called "Mistress Amber" cause she was like a dominatrix.
She would jab my abs when I wasn't doing crunches right.
BUT having a tough trainer is really worth it. She even let our sessions run long sometimes so we could get extra work in.
My next trainer didn't push me as hard and I really missed Amber.
(she left/was fired because she totally lost it)
If you want results get a good trainer. Someone who really wants to see you succeed and will push you as hard as you can take it.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not complaining about my trainer. I want to be pushed. That's what I asked for. I was just worried that I might have overdid it. My muscles are finally starting to not hurt so bad. I start back with him on Tuesday regularly. I have an hour session with him every Tuesday and Thursday.
