Re: Cool Running for the week of July 3, 2005

Jim--Welcome to 5 am!!! It is awesome, right? I did my 5 at 5 this am as well. Congrats on you new low weight and times.

Great Job this week everyone, I am thinking I will do another 5 tomorrow as yesterday was not productive and I didn't get in any exercise(other than wrangling my two boys). I guess I will be out with Diana. Sarah you have inspired me to look into signing up for a race, I am looking at maybe one in October called the Vinyard Run.

Betty as always you continue to blow us away with your dedication. Keep it coming!!

Man, you guys who get up so early!!! WOW WOW WOW!! GREAT JOB!!

Super job, Diana! I agree, nothing wrong with training 3 days in a row if you're up to it! Today will be my third day in a row and I'm psyched! The legs feel REALLY strong this morning! YAHOO!

Great job, Jim!! You're doing incredible! Congrats on the new low weight, too!! AWESOME!!

      Texmom, 5 miles is FABULOUS!!

I'm aiming for 4 today and 8 or 10 tomorrow ... gotta get out there early tomorrow since hurricane Dennis is supposed to pass us by to the west, creating lots of squally rainy windy weather for us this weekend! FOR JOY!

      Have a terrific Friday everyone!

Re: Cool Running for the week of July 3, 2005

Hello all! I've been reading the posts on this topic for a while and finally have the nerve to post.

I'm on week 3 of the Couch to 5K plan and doing pretty well. I honestly love running so far, though I joke that my version is more of a 'wog' (jog/walk) than really *running*. But the C25K plan doesn't focus on speed at this stage, just getting out there and building in the total distance, and that's working well for me so far.

I've been using my off days to just walk, or to weight train, though I hold myself back because I really want to run. I am taking it slow so far and that's helping - I tend to have knee problems but this gradual build-up of miles along with the timed walking has kept me miraculously pain free. I am aiming to run a 5K in October, which I hope gives me plenty of time to train through the C25K program, as well as spend about a month or so on generally building up my resistance.

        I'm happy to be here!

Welcome Reveal!! Glad to have you here! You're doing the program the RIGHT WAY, by taking things slow. Speed will come as you increase your distance, but its WAY MORE IMPORTANT to take it slow to avoid burnout and injury. Congratulations on your success thusfar!!

I finished today with another 4 miles at noon. Burned over 1300 calories this week so far. I feel great! Wasn't as hot today I didn't think, or perhaps I am getting used to running in a sauna?? Anyway, tomorrow will be my long sustained run day .. Shooting for 8 miles, maybe 10 if I can get out there early. We're expecting lots of rain from hurricane Dennis, so I hope to beat the rain!

Ok, update on Sarah GEESE when it rains it pours as you all know I have a serious eye infection and the doc has told me I am not to do anything WHAT THE>>>> I guess there is a risk of retinal damage but, he assures me that I should be able to do my run on the 16th. I sure hope soo. This is extremely frusturating and depressing I am so psyched to run and I can't doctors orders. To top that off I can't do weight cause he doesn't want me doing any lifting or jolting even fast walking is out. For the first tiem in 8 months I am a couch potato and I am hating life right now. I hate when someone tells me I can't do somehting it drives me crazy.

Any how I wanted to let you know how I am doing take care all. hope to be out there soon with you.

Sarah, you take care of yourself!! Hon, you ONLY get two eyes ... take care of them or running will be impossible!!! You need to do first things first .. there will be other races, so just let your body heal, follow your doc's orders and THEN get back into it!!

                Hang in there, girlfriend!

Sarah I hope you get better soon. I know you will be fine by your big race day. (even if you have to walk due to your health, you are still supporting the cause!!) I did it. I did it. I ran 6.3 miles this morning!!! Can anyone say 10k? I was just telling Sara earlier in this thread that she had inspired me to sign up for a race in October. When I said that, I was shooting for a 5k. Wow talk about low self esteme and under-estimation (sp?). The scale is not my friend today as it has me up 3lbs to 164.5, but my TOM is due any minuite, so I will not let it get me down. Have a great weekend everyone.

Re: Cool Running for the week of July 3, 2005

Congratulations, TEX!!! 6.3 miles is awesome!!!! Yes, you are MORE than ready for those races!!! WOOHOO!!!

I would bet some of those pounds you're up is water retention in your muscles ... keep drinking your water and running and POOF, they'll be gone in no time!!

I am so proud of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was going to run 8 miles today, but its raining and windy (due to hurricane Dennis passing to the west) ... and we're under a tornado watch, so prudence rules today so I'll take a rest day. I have run the past 3 days in a row, so I guess a day off is a good thing. Hopefully I can do my regular long distance run tomorrow ...

Sarah, sweetie, I hope you're feeling better!!

                    Have a great weekend everyone!!

Re: Cool Running for the week of July 3, 2005

Well I ran 10 miles this morning kept a nice slow pace and kept my heart rate in the 140's. But I ran it in 1:44:44 so only 5 minute slower than my fastest at that distance which I did on Father's day (which was also my first time at that distance). So I gues that means that my cardio vascular health is improving if I can keep my heart rate down and not even be running that much slower.

Betty, I saw that you burned 1300 calories this week, because I'm three times your size I burned 1360 during this mornings run. I just find that somewhat amusing.

And TexWife great job and the 6.3 miles. Yes I can say 10K. That's awesome.

I've been looking at my run logs and I need to get more serious (and I have been). But I'm a little disappointed in how often I had been running.
                      Last fall - 2 runs - 7.6 miles
                      April - 5 runs - 15.6 miles
                      May - 5 runs - 25 miles
                      June - 15 runs - 74.8 miles
                      July (so far) - 5 runs - 27.2 miles

I know there is the danger of over-training, but I don't think I'm training enough, although I'm getting much closer to where I need to be at. Instead of 2-4 runs a week, it needs to be 4-6 runs a week. And I need my mileage to be around 30-35 miles per week as well. If I'm gonna be ready for these half marathons, that's the distance I need to be doing. Oh yeah I didn't mention that, I'm looking at 2 other 1/2's as well. Sep 2nd and Oct 1st, then the BAA half on Oct 9th. I know those two are only a week apart but I think since they are halfs it's ok.

I think I've crossed the threshhold of the muscle building equalling the fat loss. The scale is finally moving downward consistently. As good as muscle building is, the past few months have been very frustrating for me, scale wise. But I think now the muscle building should slow and the fat loss should now continue, for net losses from here on out. I need to be lighter for these races or my joints (and feet which are killing me now) are not gonna like me.

                      Run on, friends.
                      Jim

Yes I'm eating a smore in the picture, how do you think I got so fat?

Neither rain, nor snow nor gloom of night ... can I include hurricanes??

I ran 7.5 miles today .. 6 of which were dry, the last 1.5 of which were in a rain driven, wind smackin' downpour ... can I count extra miles for those?? Okay, 7.5 miles done for today ... holy cow, can it come down in a hurricane ...

that gives me 35 miles for the week .. enough already!!

Pray for my friends along the gulf coast please ... 100 mph winds ..
