    What an awesome race!

I got to the middle school around 6:20 and they had music blaring. Van Halen "Right Now", Theme from Raiders of the Lost Ark, Theme from Rocky, etc. Then three high school sisters did a patriotic medley (great voices) and everyone was still talking over them. Then they sang the national anthem. The crowd slowly got quiet, then slowly you could hear the voices of everyone singing softly, it raised goose bumps. Then a firework and the race was off.

I decided to get aggresive and I lined up near the front. I'm so glad I did because I avoided a huge bottleneck coming out of the middle school driveway. I got to the first mile at 8:30, I was like I gotta slow down, I hit the second mile at 17:00, I was flying. Mind you it was about 60 degrees(awesome) and the course is mostly trending downhill. I had lots of kick at the end and finished strong.

I said I wanted tobe under 45 minutes and I'd loved to break 40 minutes. Well I didn't break 40, I BROKE 39!!!!!!!! I ran it in 38:59!!!!!(unofficially, I'll check the official time later). I am soooooo happy! What a great day!

    Regards, my friends.

Re: July 4th race results are in

I left that part out, huh? 4.6 miles

OK some more updates my splits were 8:30, 8:30, 9:05, 9:01, 3:53 (for the balance) which is way faster than my 9-1/2 minute normal pace.

But I was pushing my heart rate big time
      mile 1 avg 160 max 171
      mile 2 avg 165 max 172
      mile 3 avg 167 max 176
      mile 4 avg 171 max 175
      4-4.6 avg 178 max 194

So as you can see I had lots of kick left and left it all out on the course. Seeing my max heart rate by age is 183 and by my HRM fitness test it's 173, I'm a bit confused. But I feel great!

How do you get all that split info? Gamin 301?

Good job...once you hit goal you'll get 3 minute splits.

No from my HRM, I was hitting the lap at each mile. And my time was right with what they were calling out. So I'm pretty confident mine are accurate.

OK I'm soirtof disappointed byt my official results. They have me at 40:00, I know for a fact I was 38:59, because I was standing in the chute when the clock turned 39:00. But no big deal I know what my time was.

I placed 684th out of 1506 finishers. I think a lot didn't finish or some people just register to get the t-shirt. LOL Either was that puts me up in the top half of the field with room to spare and that I am extremely happy about.

That's a terrific time, Jim!! I envy you being able to run in 60 degree temps downhill!! I'll have to wait until mid-January for that!!

Considering my midnight run on the 4th was 82 degrees and 86% humidity up and over 2 drawbridges ...and NOT A BREEZE TO BE FOUND ANYWHERE!!
About the only good thing to report was NO SUNBURN!! Oh what the heck, I still finished strong and passed tons of people MUCH YOUNGER than I am!!
