  • Exercise at night!

Hey you guys just wondering if exercising to tae bo at night will be detrimental to my weight loss because i'll usually do an hour of advanced workout and then go to slepp within the hour after. I also do 30 mins of basic and another hour of advanced during the day.

Is this ok or will it effect the limit of my heightened metabolism due to the exercise?

    Re: Exercise at night!

    Guy_solo,

It shouldn't. If it doesn't interrupt your sleep pattern and keep you awake, then do what works and keeps you exercising. My friend can only exercise at night because her day job and off hours keep her too busy to exercise and she likes the quiet and calm of the night to do her workouts. (she also does tae-bo; she is an addict!) She has lost 70 lbs so far and it hasn't stopped her loss at all. She used to spend the time raiding the fridge, now she exercises instead. I know a few others who also exercise at night.

Though one school of thought says that the optimum time to exercise is morning because studies show that those who make it a "first thing" priority, in the long run, continue to work out and stick with their plans when others quit. Plus they say the peak time for the body and metabo is in the afternoon PM hours and tapers off by late afternoon/evening to rest the body. I agree but everybody is different and evening workouts work better for some people than others, especially when it comes to working out in the evening or not doing it at all. I workout in the late afternoon and not morning, because my schedule; I actually like it better. Whether I stick with it, we'll see! lol! They also say that doing exercise at night could interrupt the body's natural sleep pattern, blah, blah, blah. I think you should do what works and keeps you motivated. If you can stick with it long term; do it.

The only thing I would say is that make sure you do a really, really long good cool down before bed because if you don't and go to sleep within the hour, you could be setting your self up for DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) and blood pooling in the legs and limbs because it could not recirculate properly to its previous level from insufficient cooling down; which can cause wicked cramps! (from experience! ouchie!) Also, doing execise twice-three times a day, may cause a "stall" in weight loss, which is not a stall at all. You will be gaining quite a bit of muscle mass and it will mask the weight loss and fool you into thinking you are not losing. So don't be surprised if your weight loss slows or seems to stop; it will get going again properly. BTW, congrats on losing 25 lbs+ already!

      Re: Exercise at night!

since you are eating Atkins and burning fat for fuel all day and night you will not harm your burning by going to bed after you work out as long as it doesn't keep you awake as it does some folk.

      HAve fun doing your workouts.
