You're doing great, sweetie! Keep adding 10% (no more than that or you risk injury) and see where you stand about September-ish ... I'd say you can do the halfer ... but its up to you!!

I am so happy for you and the progress you've made! TERRIFIC JOB!

PS. I am really careful if it hurts I take a break that day(and I don't count it as a run.) With 4 months to work up to the race I am going to do what I can. And as I mentioned earlier they have a 5k if I don't feel I will be up to par. Thanks as always for your help and support.

Re: Cool Running for the week of 7/10/05

Well I've been MIA from this thread for too long (4 days). I hadn't run since my 10 miler on Saturday. Life kinda got in the way. I got up at 5AM this morning to do a quick 5 miles, well a slower 5 miles 48:32. But I kept my heart rate lower than normal, since I hadn't run in the past few days and I wasn't real strict food wise either. I think the four rest days were not necessarily a bad thing because some nagging discomfort seems to be better as well (and my chest needed some time to heal too, LOL, but I found some new remedies for that). The problem is I gotta run today, tomorrow, and Saturday just to get three runs in this week. Oh well, I'll do it.
Funny thing I noticed today. Without other runners it is very hard to keep the pace up. So as I was running I saw another runner in front of me. So I quickened the pace to catch her and said I'm definitely gonna catch her on the hill. Wouldn't you know she took a right at the bottom of the hill. Oh well. LOL

          See you on the road.
          Jim

Ok Betty, I talked to my hubby and he said go for it. With his encouragement as well as you all here I know I can do it. There is a 4 hour course time limit so at 18 min miles I know I can finish. I am writing out my check now as shirts only go to the first 5000 participants.

Go Sarah. I am so excited for you. I feel like I am going to run this weekend, I am so pumped for your race. I say go for a half marathon, why not? You are really doing great with both your running progress and your weight loss!!!!

Jim we were worried about you. Glad to see you back. As for your chest did you get the number to Janet's pastie supplier? Jk JK JK!!!

Oh yeah--- 5miles @ 5am today!!! One more day of that then a break, then 6.93.

Tex, I concur .. GO FOR IT!! You'll have no problem completing the course .. keep up with your terrific training runs!!

Jim, rest days are always a good thing .. I know you're like me .. hate NOT being out there ...grrr... but you'll make up ground in a hurry, I know it!!

I'm working 1/2 day today, then heading home to run. At least 8 miles, maybe more ... depends on when our afternoon t-storms hit. Well, heck, not that they slow me down much .. I ran during the rain from hurricane Dennis last weekend!

Sarah, I'm so excited for you!! You'll look AWESOME crossing that finish line!!
              HAVE A BLAST, GIRLIE!!

Re: Cool Running for the week of 7/10/05

In a thread with a bunch of runners who go so fast they leave sparks this might not sound like much, but I did a mile run (no walking) last night in 13:40! That was the first mile I've run (not wogged) in about ten years, and it felt terrific.

I'd done 2.5 yesterday morning, a run/walk, but at around 9:30 last night I looked out and it was all misty and cool and the air smelled washed clean, and suddenly I just wanted to be out there, so I went! I walked for a few minutes to warm up and then just decided to see what I could do. Well, a mile later I felt great, but I knew I should be getting home to get ready for today so I reluctantly went inside. I admit I have a sore right hip today, but I think that's just an overuse thing since my body isn't used to this quite yet, but that means I'll need to take it easy today. Bummer! I wanted to get out there again tonight.

This running thing really gets to you!

You guys are all so inspiring. After reading your posts, I decided to give the Cto5K a shot and started this morning with week one. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. I've been walking alot so maybe this is the next step. My goal is to do Curves MWF and Cto5K TThS. I've got to find outdoor cardio that I love to do so maybe this is it. And if I feel accountable to report my progress, maybe I will actually stick with it.

I just finished 9 blistering miles in the July Florida sun/humidity. The sweat is rolling off in streams from every inch of my bod! I burned 746 calories, 15% fat. Kept the heart rate at a steady 169, which considering the heat, is great!

I feel good .. just wish I'd stop dripping!!

Re: Cool Running for the week of 7/10/05

Forgot to post my elliptical workout yesterday - did an hour and burned 680 calories. I worked at a more intense level than normal.

Today, I did an hour, but in the last 25 minutes, I decided to try the alternating High Intensity stuff that others have posted about. I'd really push it for 2 minutes, then back to normal for 4 minutes, then repeat. Normally, my heart rate during my workout averages around 148, but I got it up to 163 during those 2 minutes and during the 4 minutes, it never dropped below 153, then back up again for the next 2 minutes.

My butt is sore! And it's not usually sore after cardio! I was seriously pooped when I was done, but talk about a good pooped!! Yea!!

                      Anyway, I burned 749 calories.
                      Monica

I don't know if I'll be running any races in a matter of weeks, but I do want to get to the place where I can run (jog really) for an extended period of time.

Check out coolrunning.com for the complete C25K program, but today I did twenty minutes of alternating walk 90 sec and jog 60 seconds with a five minute warm up walk and a five minute (which was really ten) cool down walk back to my car. It was great.
