  • It's official, I registered for the half

Well, no turning back now. I've been talking about it for so long. I am now an official entrant in the B.A.A. Half-marathon. OMG what have I done? LOL

I put an expected finish of 2 hours, I hope to be under that. Now to crank my training back up. I've been slacking the past week and a half.

    GO JIM!

I understand completely ... when I registered for the Disney Half Marathon, the next day, I woke up in a sweat!

But then, yesterday, I ran 13.1 miles in the heat and humidity of a Florida July day and did great ... the Halfer will be in January with NO HEAT and NO HUMIDITY! Can't wait!

In 2007? Maybe the full 26.2!!!

Cool!!! I completed my first half marathon in April in St Louis. It was an awesome experience. It was the hardest thing I've done in my life. My mom and did it together. It took us just under 3 hours, but we completed it! I eventually want to complete a marathon, but I think I'll do another half first.

I just got my confirmation email for "The Half". I am so excited. My bib number is 120. I am so excited. Makes the soreness from my 8 miles on Sunday just disappear.

I went into the running store in Downtown Lowell tonight - I was just passing through because of the Folk Festival that's in town - and it turns out that the owner/manager of the store who was working is also the race director of the Baystate Marathon & Half Marathon. We started talking running, and I think I'm going back this week to buy some new running shoes. I am scared about this. I feel like once I plunk down $110 for new shoes, there's no turning back. I'm hoping to do another long run tomorrow morning (well, by long run I mean 5-6 miles). Only 11 weeks until the Baystate Half! I'm not going to register until I can do 8 comfortable miles, which, according to my training schedule, will fall on September 18th.

How's everyone else holding up for their upcoming half?

Effie, that's super that you're going for it!! I know you will do great! And as far as plunking down $$$$ for shoes .. hon, consider it a great investment in protecting yourself from injury! I buy new shoes $99 a shot about every 3 months.......... but you know what, no injuries to this old lady in nearly 2 years of running!

As far as preparing for the halfer .. yesterday was a GREAT training run of nearly 13 miles up the trail (it is hilly) and I finished it in 2:38. I was so happy! Considering its *still* the dog days of summer and I've increased my speed that much, I hope to do even better in January when the weather is perfect for running!! I am sooooooooooooooooo psyched! The body doesn't hurt a bit and I feel super today! BRING ON THE HALF!

Effie, I love investing in my new obsession!!! Just think of the $110.00 you would have spent on carbs and how much better it is to spend it on shoes. I droped about $30 for the cause yesterday for shorts, chafing cream(couldn't find body glide), and 1 packet of energy gel (saving for 10 miles or more).

I set out to do 8 miles this morning. Well I did not.....I did 9 miles(1:40)! I feel confident that I will be able to do 13.1 by Nov. 6th.

                              Awesome job everyone.
