  • power of 10 vs slow burn

I'm going to order either Power of 10 or Slow Burn, or both. Would you recommend one of these books over the other?

I'm leaning towards Power of 10 because the diet the author "developed" is almost Atkins-like. I don't agree with him on a couple minor points, but he's basically got it down.

    Stop eating sugar
    Stop eating other 'white things'
Eat lean protein each time you eat
Eat tons of the 'dark green, red and yellow things'
    Eat extra fiber every day
Eat a little of the 'good' fats like olive oil, and don't eat the 'bad' saturated fats
    Eat whole foods
Eat moderate size meals and snacks, 6 times a day
    Drink tons of water
Eat low calorie, non-sugar sweets and desserts
Take one day off each week and eat anything you want

I'm buying the book(s) for myself, but also for my son and a friend of his.

I haven't read Power of 10, but I have read Slow Burn. There were a couple of threads I followed on these two books though and it was really interesting. I know one couple who've really had great results with it.

I did a Slow Burn workout twice and ...holy cow!! But I couldn't wrap around their premise that I only had to do that 1-2 times a week and didn't have to worry about aerobics. <shrug>

I read it for the exercise, not the diet/woe. I've already found what works for me in that dept

      Hi, Brook!

I just started back on Si6 yesterday. I'm half-tempted to try modify in both programs at once, but once I progress into the butt-kicking phase I'll probably wise up.

Do you recall if the diet in Slow Burn was low carb or not? Miranda has really picked up on all the basics of eating well, but Steven would rather learn from somewhere other than mom. (although that didn't bother him years ago when he picked up all my BAD eating habits! ) He's just about to turn 17 now. It sure wouldn't hurt if something he gets has a healthy attitude toward food rather than the high carb-loading reteric that's spouted at school.

Really though, if the programs are about the same I was curious if one book was maybe a better read than the other. As much as I love the Atkins program, DANDR can be a long read for those who haven't already had health or weight problems.

ps -- I just popped in here today and realized my siggy weight was the same as 1 1/2 yrs ago! I just needed to change the age. That in itself is both good and bad, I suppose. I dropped my goal weight a few pounds, but we shall see. I really need the toning up so if it's higher due to muscle I wouldn't mind it a bit.
