  • "Worst 5K Ever"

Here's a copy of my race report I posted on another site:
Ran the "Footzone 5K Fast and the Furious" today in Redmond,WA.

First of all for the first time in 7 5K's I didn't beat my PR
I was 34 seconds slower on a perfectly flat course.
I have an "excuse" tho: I've been running 4 days straight and yesterday I climbed a 4000' peak. I also had lost a # since yesterday and I didn't have any energy at all this morning.
During the race I was begging for there to be a hill. I think I just do much better on the hills. I pretty much knew I was off pace at each mile marker. I was really proud of my sprint at the end tho. I wish I could run like that the whole race instead of the last 200 meters.

BUT that's not why I'm calling it the "worst 5K Ever"
I'm in control of my speed/preparation so I don't blame the course.
First of all their registration form sucked. There were radio buttons with no labels on them. Like how hard is it to do HTML folks? So I had to read the source code to figure out what to choose.
There are no bathrooms within 300 yards of the start. There is no water at the start. There are no trash cans at the start.
Then at the finish...there is no food. None. Not even some fruit. We're in the middle of a shopping mall but I guess none of the local places could be bothered throwing some food together. I coulda gone to Costco and gotten a ton of snacks for under $100 that woulda been enough. They didn't have any water either. I mean they had some but they couldn't keep up with the finishers so people had to wait.
I think their theory was that they had some Olympic athletes there so no perks for the runners.
It was kewl seeing those guys pass me on their 2nd lap when I was still on my first. Doesn't mean the organizers couldn't throw me a frickin bone at the end there.

Anyways...It's off to Taperville for me until my climb next week. No more hard runs, just easy stuff.

    Iappy is feeling crappy
At least I'll get a break from training until my climb next week.
The scale said 194 this am...the lowest since I started Atkins. (78 lb loss)
    Didn't help me tho.
    -Iap How I did it

Oh guy, I'm sorry .. sounds like poor organization to be sure. Never heard of a 5k with no food at the end.

You did well though .. just to finish is a victory!

The next one will be better. Great job for tuffing(sp?) it out after such a long week.
