  • 3.2 mile walk on treadmil in 51.28 minutes

Last night I did a 3.2 mile (5 K) walk (very fast) on my treadmil in 51.28 minutes. What is considered a good time to run 3.2 miles? I haven't started running yet but I'm just wondering what a good time would be.

    What's considered a good time?

Whatever time it takes YOU to finish!!

My last 5K I did in just over 32 minutes. My first one I did it in 38 minutes. Regardless, I ran the whole time and I crossed the finish line. That makes them good times so far as I'm concerned!

Brook is right; your time is the BEST TIME! Congratulations on your achievement! A 5k is really 3.1 miles, so actually you did it even faster than you think! WTG and keep up the great work!

PS .. my first 5k was something like 45 minutes .. that was 2 1/2 years ago and now its 32 minutes .. so see, its all about persistence! YOU CAN DO IT!

you can figure out what should be a good time for you if you figure out your target heart rate and see how faast you have to go to reach it and keep yourself in that target range. it will be different for every person and will change as you get in better shape. As you start your running you might want to use the coolrunning Couch to 5 K program many folk here used. And son't be surprised if you find you go slower when you start running then you did when you were walking cause you are going to be using your muscles in a slightly different way and need to concentrate more on your landing form every step.

To win a 5K you would need to run it in about 15 mins.

I ran 5k on the treadmill at the gym last night and I did it in 35 minutes. First time ive managed it this year and I was quite happy with the time.

Ive got a 10k race in a month and Im aiming to do it in 1hr 10 minutes.
Just been able to last that long is a treat to me, I could care less about the time if im truthful.

Who needs to win?? To me, FINISHING IS WINNING. I only race against myself during 5k & 10ks. Maybe its the fact that I'm going on 50 and have never been a track star ... for me, the success is in the doing, not the winning.

15 minutes eh? I guess I have my work cut out for me.

That's a pretty good time bambina. I'm impressed. That's the time I'm going to try to aim for. I haven't started running yet. I did the 5K in 51 minutes by walking really fast.

Well, some of us have a bit of a competitive steak in them...I'll turn ANYTHING into a competition, and I mean anything. It annoys people. It would annoy me too if I weren't myself.

I'm a competitor to the core. Its just that my field of competition is ME. What others do is up to them. I just want to beat myself.

That is a very rude and insensitive statement, especially to those just starting their running 'career'. If I had been told in the beginning if I didn't WIN, I'd be humiliated, I never would have started.

Geesh. have a heart. Give people credit for getting out there. Maybe for men, its a WIN AT ALL COSTS mentality, but for us women, we are champions for effort.

                            Lighten up.

                              no, you lighten up.

I was just joking. The steroid comment shoulda been a giveaway.

But if wanna wants to win a 5K I say go for it. There's no harm in trying.
Even implying that she could never win a 5K is insulting. At least an age group.

I think the best lesson for her is to actually run a 5K and see what it's really like. Then if she wants to try to win her division there are plenty of training programs she can use.
