  • Getting in shape - HELP

Hello all. Let me start by introducing myself. I started on a low carb diet July 4, 2004 at around 230 pounds. I stayed on roughly less than 20-30 grams of carbs a day the entire time. (I did fall off the wagon a couple of times throughout the holiday seasons). I was just sick and tired of being fat and lazy. I am a 34 year old male, approximately 5'10" tall. As of this morning, I am at 167-168 pounds. AMAZING... (I look and feel damn good!)

Anyways, the problem I am now faced with is losing the last little layers of fat and getting "cut", getting the six pack abs, sculpting my body. I'm not really sure what the best way to do this is? I've started on a "HIIT" type exercise program, but am still hovering around 20-ish grams of carbs per day. I jog then sprint then repeat in 60-90 second cycles until I am exhausted (doesn't take long!). I've been way too lazy with the exercise all along, but I do have everything I need (except motivation LOL). I'm not so much looking for how to build muscle, but more to lose just that last layer or two of the real stubborn fat that diet alone doesn't seem to work well on.

You'll probably all say "GO TO THE GYM!!" ... Should I concentrate on aerobic stuff? Light weight but high intensity weight training? What is the best way to burn up the last of that fat??? I've never been big into working out, so I really don't have a clue how to get lean and "cut". Someone please point me in the right direction!

    Thanks in advance!

First of all you need to move to OWL and start upping the carbs. This explains the exhaustion.
As you lose weight your body burns less calories so you need to balance that with more exercise to keep your metabolism up.
I recommend running. If you can work up to 1hr/day running 3x week that will help you burn more fat. Don't try this all at once...build up over a few months.
On the days you don't run do some xtraining like biking, elliptical, swimming, and take at least 1 day completely off every week. Also to build fat-burning muscle you need to work with heavy weights and fatigue your muscles.
Look at the www.bodyforlife.com site for tips on how to do this.

ype weight training to build more fat burning muscle tissue and to strengthen your muscles and upping the areobics to burn the fat too. The HIIT is a great way to do your aerobics. I'm assuming you will increase the speed and duration as you get in bettershape and are pushing yourself to do so. Every week you can up it some and you will be amazed at how fast your endurance improves.

CARDIO. PLAN AND SIMPLE. Just take it slow, build up gradually and watch those fat layers melt.
