  • My first attempt...

    BOY Am I:

    1. OLD!

    2. FAT!

    3. Out of Shape (round of course is a shape)

I dusted off the YMCA card and went far enough to walk into the door of the place. I warmed up by using the lifecycle for 10 minutes and then stretching out and doing what my version of running has become. I would call it more of the old "Airborne shuffle" but I did set out to do a mile. It took right around the ten minute mark and I didnt walk at all nor did I really feel the need too, but I can FEEL how fat I am while I plod along. Not exactly the most motivating thing I've ever experienced... I plan on hitting the Y everyday after work for another go at the track and maybe some laps in the pool. When I was a young buck I ran and swam like an animal.. now I find Im feeling like a cross between a mineral and vegetable!

That is so awesome that you started though. That's half the battle. Just take it slow and you'll be amazed by how quickly your endurance and strength will build.

        What?!!! Are you kidding me?!!

It took me 2 months to work up to running a mile, and it took me another 3 after that to work up to running it in 10 minutes!

        Feel better?!

Well done, Fozzy! I think it's awesome that you accomplished all that after being out for some time!

          Re: My first attempt...

i just got back from the Y in fact. UGH! Very warm here still. I read the cool runnings site and looked at the "couch to 5k" segment and pretty much read that I am basically doing it wrong. This falls into the realm of "if all else fails follow instructions". I'm feeling pretty good. Not getting near the scales for the rest of the week. I'm hoping for some decent results...

I think you'll really like the Couch to 5k program. Keep at it, you're doing great!

When I first started ATKINS, and decided to exercise (walk)...my first day out I ruptured two disks in my back and was out of commission totally for SIX WEEKS. Could barely crawl to the bathroom and back. It was horrible....but now I am doing 4 miles a day.

You are doing fantastic. Just the fact that you are going and with your determination...I know you will be feeling fit and fantastic in no time. Weigh to GO!!!

I've already had a major knee surgery. Can't say that it was any fun. I've lived with broken feet and such, I'm just trying to do this without REALLY hurting myself so I CAN'T do this anymore.
