  • Just one week until my first 5K!

    Hello, ladies and gents. I can hardly believe it, but next Saturday will be my first 5K! I started wogging (walking/jogging) back in mid June, and I remember clearly the first time I could do one mile. Now I can do 4-5, and though I'm slow as all get out I have fun and love to run.

    Which is why I'm here. Since I'm down to my last week, I'd like to get any and all tips/ideas/suggestions that you all have about the week before a race. I just feel like I should be doing something different or better. Probably silly, I know, but it's keeping me motivated.

    So, anything you'd like to share? Have a particularly Atkins-friendly food that is your secret weapon? Any tips you wish you'd known on your first race?

    Don't do anything different, just keep your regular schedule.
    You may want to reduce the miles just the day before but it can help just getting some miles in.

    Don't eat anything new before the race if anything.
    Make sure you go out slow...start near the back of the pack. It's funner to pass people if you can than to see everyone streaming by. Don't worry about what anyone else is doing.
    Get there early. Make sure you know how to get to/from the start/finish lines if they aren't in the same place.
    Your race number goes on the front (so picture takers can identify you...some races also will annouce your name at the finish)
    Wear your chip on your ankle...any higher and it might not register.

      I totally agree with Iap! Just have fun! Oh, remember to straighten up and smile as you come across the finish. Cameras will be going off!
