  • I felt so sick!

I went out this morning to start up my training for a 5K again. I was in a groove feeling pretty good but about minute 19 I felt really sick, I wanted to throw up so bad. My heart was pumping like crazy and my stomach was doing flips. It felt like I had heart burn which I never have, I don't know what it was all I know is that I was bent at the waist breathing through my nose trying to keep from throwing up on the running trail. I walked slowly the whole way back to my car and I knew that every step that I was about to lose my kibbles and bits. I didn't eat or drink anything before going, just a tiny sip of water.

What the heck was this? Should I stop doing this type of workout and stick to Slim in 6 or walking. I'm home now and I still feel a bit nauseus. I hope it goes away soon.

Oh, and I am definatly not prego.

Hon, I'm sorry you felt so bad! Next time, try eating some protein & fat about an hour before you go out. I'll bet your "tank" was empty ...

    FEEL BETTER!

Thanks Betty, I felt better about an hour later. I think your right, I should have had something before going out. I'm not giving up though, tomorrow I'll do cross training but Monday I'll be back out there.

Oh, dear darling Yes, be sure you have some food and also did you run the entire time after not having done it in so long you may have poushed your prro body too hard for the first time. Take it a bit easier next time. I know when I push to a new level I ahve never been to before I feel sick could very well be that.

        Take care sweety

          GO SLOWER!

It's amazing how many people don't really understand this.
If you want to run for 30 mins, run at a pace that you can finish your 30 min run and still feel like you can keep going if you had to. Your goal isn't to drop dead at the end of your run.

If you plan to run 60 then you need to run slower than for 30.
My 5K pace is just over 10 min/mile but my training pace is over 14 min/min...which is like a fast walk but with a running motion.

Another thing to do (which I think is extremely important if not an absolute requirement) is to get a heart-rate monitor. You should be able to get a decent used one off of ebay. Then you can set a target HR and make sure you stick to it during your whole run, including hills.

I also wear a camelbak during outdoor runs and just sip from it every couple mins. On the TM I have a water bottle. Dehydration is a killer.

          Good luck!

I totally agree with Iap. Go slower. Figuring out what and when to eat before a run is important too. Good for you for hanging in.
