  • my stupid back

Okay, i did something to my back. Anyone who has read any of my posts over the last while knows this isnt new. I do this often. I know that a huge part of the problem is that I am fat, and my muscles arent strong. THis time, I think all I did was sleeping on my sons bed, which is way too soft. But it is getting steadily worse.

I tried, last night, to do some exercise band things for my chest and quads, and I was unable to modify or isolate well enough to not feel it in my lower back.

What should I do until this heals? Swimming isnt an option... The gym is being stupid about repairs on the walking lanes... so all the walkers are invited in to the lap lanes, all day long, so there is no way to actually swim. GRRRRRRRRRRRR. I am not happy with them right now.

    Ideas?

Sorry to hear about your back

In the meantime I suppse you could always use the seated stationary bike, where you just sit with your back pressed hard against the back saddle type thing and just peddle your legs?

I'm not sure of the official name of the equipment, I hope my explanation is clear?

If not I will try again.

Here you go! I hope this helps!

Be careful because your back is already in pain, and be sure to stretch both before and after these exercises!

Back pain is the pits. Is it low back pain, below your waist line or upper back.
        1. Don't exercise while your back still hurts. You need to rest those muscles.
        2. If its low back pain, you need to walk every day to strengthen it, but wait til your better
        3. Ice, heat, ice, heat, ice heat

          Re: my stupid back

          Thank you everyone...

It is my low back. I screw it up every now and again. I found some (old) muscle relaxers from last time in the way deep cupboard, took a couple before bed, and am okay again this morning.

I will be working on getting it stronger. This is silly.

            Re: my stupid back

I have a history of back problems and my doctor says walking is the best thing you can do for yourself. Back injuries are slow healers and it takes a lot of time to ease the pain. Sitting for extended periods of time will usually aggravate an existing problem. Over the counter anti-inflammatory medication can be also be helpful. I use Naproxen.

The only thing that works on my low back pain, which is not as bad as yours, is lots and lots of stretching and mentholated muscle cream. Being injured is bad news for someone motivated to exercise, but it is better to get over it first than injure it worse. Take care of yourself.

                Re: my stupid back

I'm so sorry about your back. I hurt mine last year and was bedridden for 6 weeks. I ended up getting some cortesone injections. I don't have a solution, just hugs for you.
