  • Calories Burned at Gym - Part 2 (YEAH !)

O.K. I read all the responses and... I made some changes to my workout today.

    I upped my speed from 2.5 - to 3.7

    I upped my incline from 2.0 - to 8.0

I upped my time from 30 min. with a 5 min. cool down - to 40 min with a 5 min cool down

My results today: 3.0 miles/ 458 calories burned

    Before the change I averaged around 2.0 - 2.2 miles / with 190 - 225 calories burned.

Thanks everyone ! now ... I'm going to add jogging in here at some point.

Speed isn't as important as incline. Go for an incline of 10 today at a speed of 3.3 and watch your burn be even more, baby! You go, hot mama!

    No tricks here. Only treats!

Yeah, what Cleo said...up the incline first, then the speed. You go!

O.k. so for tomorrow's workout... perhaps I will go with an incline of like 12.
        (is that possible - lol!)

Anything's possible. Try for 10 and see how it goes. If you're feeling good then up the incline, but don't try for too much too fast. I don't want you hanging off the back of the treadmill because you're propped up so high you're hanging on for your life.

          Not that I've been there.

Gradually increase the incline...not all at once. What's the last incline level you've done? Is it 2? I wouldn't go from 2 to 10 during one session. Gradually build up to it...it won't take that long.

I completed my workout today at an incline of 8 ... so technically 10 would be a good increase for tomorrow.

Well today... I upped the incline to 12 and I burned 412 calories !!!

Now... can someone explain AGAIN how the burning more calories thingy works in the equation with weight loss (need a refresher)????

                    I can try...

You want to figure your need for caloric intake at your activity level and metabolism here.

With that information, you can begin to calculate.

If science dictates that to lose we must expend 3500 kilo-calories to lose 1 pound, you want to look at what you require to be alive.

Expending calories through exercise + eating to below what your resting metabolism caloric necessities are = the number you divide into 3500 to allow you the number of days it takes to burn one pound, all things being equal.

If you want to give me some numbers, I'll run some calculations for you.

                      Let's say you are 5'4" , are 25 and weight 153.

You'd requite 2400 calories to exist.

Say you're burning 412 calories a day and eating 1500 calories a day.

You are showing a 1312 calorie deficit. At this rate, you'd lose a pound roughly every 3 days.
