  • Exercise with body ball?

    I just got a body ball, not so much for the exercising you can do with it, but to work on my abs by sitting on it and bouncing, moving my hips in circles etc while I sit at the computer... I've been sitting here for the last hour bouncing and swiveling. Is this some sort of exercise I can count or not? If so, what kind and how in the heck do I make it count towards my activities in the presidential challenge, I don't know IF or WHAT it would be classified as, I'm certainly doing a lot of moving and my stomach feels it.

    sit still on the ball and remove one leg from the floor your core muscles will get a nice exercise balancing you. Then once you get the bakance thing down tey no feet. do crucnches while you wait for the pages to load you can get a very good abs workout sitting reading and posting on ADBB. Make sure your ball is inflated to the right height too or you will not get as good a workout balancing.

      Yes, but does an hour of this count as exercise? And if it does... what kind? I can't find anything that matches it on fitday or on the presidential challenge list.

        you are working your core muscles so give yoga a try

          Thank you 2big! I will be sitting here for hours and hours working those core muscles, but since I'm not quite sure just how much exercise that is, i'm going to only count 1 hour of yoga for the presidential challenge so I can be very conservative for that and not get something more than what it deserves. I'd rather do more than less. Also, I"m not counting this towards my exercise challenge, that should just be something more strenuous for me, I think, like the machine, to count for anything else. You're a great help! More hugs from the nutty duo coming your way~!

            OH I LOVE MY BALL!! Its by far the most effective core muscle strengthening tool out there! I strongly suggest you pick up a video to use with it ... I have the Kathy Smith one and its great! You can do all sorts of ab work with it. I try and do 100 crunches a day on it .. whew! I love it!

              I'll have to think about that too! Sounds like it could be fun exercise, I dont' have the space for exercising by the tv though right now, so i may have to wait on that. Thanks for the info!

                I do the same thing with my ball...sit on it at the computer. But, I don't count that toward minutes...I can't move around that much while typing or for that matter, while reading, it makes me seasick (ballsick )!

                  you just lean back about 1/2 way down and then back up for a crunch. when you get really good at balancing and crunching you will need more space so you can lift your legs and raise your body from laying flat on your ball in a jack knife thingie for real good ab workourts. but that is further down the road. Oh I can tell you from experience don't try to do squats while sitting on the ball. you need a wall behind you do that and to start standing up first.

                    Hey!

                    Boy am I glad you asked the question Jas....I have one of thoes balls (silver) and I really was not quite sure what to do with it.

                    Right now I am somewhat limited re the stuff I am allowed to do while standing up....i.e. I am not allowed to do any kind of squat or lunge or back sweep of my leg.

                    But.......since I am sitting on the ball, there is no reason why I cannot do what you'all are suggesting.....and boy oh boy have my abs gone to pot! Fabulous, no more excuses!
