  • Cool Running for the week of November 27, 2005

Well, here we are, its the last few days of November already!! I tell ya, where does the time go??

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and managed to burn off alot of calories!!

I just finished 10.3 miles on the trail. Didn't run my usual Saturday trail run because DH and I have spent the last 4 days painting the outside of the house. We're *nearly* done .. and man, what a workout that's been. I swear, I have deltoids of steel now!! But it was worth it because the house looks great!

Anyway, 10.3 done today and looking forward to a good week of running now that I'm feeling better! YAY!

    Have a terrific week!

      Fantastic Sarah!

I am resting and icing today after yesterday's looong run and PR.http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...54&postcount=6 I think I am extra sore from the added weight my soaked clothes and shoes gave me--especially the shoes--I think the added weight pulled on my ankles and strained the ligaments in my shins--yeow! Normally, I don't get any ankle or shin pain...Also, I had my first experience with owie chafing--Now, I always grease up my feet with vaseline, and I use bodyglide in strategic areas--especially where the legs rub--but, because of the wet clothing, I chafed in areas I did not get--right above my bra line, and, of ALL places, right inside my belly button--how weird is that? I was taking my shower, and I started to feel stinging...I think the snap on my shorts may have done it--there is a small bit of velcro there as well...Learn something new with every run, eh?

I'll run a short recovery run tomorrow...

Hello all! Betty, your new pictures are awesome!

I had a slow week last week, mainly due to feeling like garbage, but the holiday didn't help. I didn't overeat (much *g*) but I still feel a little like I'm backtracking today. I did sit down and outlined my training for the week. School and work are really heating up in the next month, so it's time for me to really get a good schedule. I haven't done any weight training so far, but I brought home some 5 and 10 pound free weights this weekend and am looking forward to lifting just a bit. Nothing huge right now, but a little. If anyone has any advice about that I'd love to hear it. I am planning to do it on my running "off" days, but I'll kind of be winging it, since I don't really have any experience with weights.

        Hope you're all well!

Mon--25 min run--my shin was killing me--had to stop and end the run, then ice...
Tues--rest day from running, ballet/lyrical class--ooohhh, my hamstring was tight!
Wed.--(today) 30 min easy run--ok until the end, when I start feeling a twinge in my shins--grrrrrr...30 min again tomorrow before resting on Fri & 7 mi Sat...

So cool you could see the lights, Betty--There a few on this a.m., but most were off

                Have a great day everyone!

I ran 4 miles last night and it felt wonderful! Sunday night I tried to run and for the first time in years came up against my old exercise induced asthma. I had it so bad in high school that it really left me feeling vulnerable and like I just wasn't *meant* to exercise. So Sunday night I went home and pouted. But last night I made sure to take my inhaler twice before I left the house and I didn't even have a twinge! Hurrah!

My hips hurt today even after a pretty thorough stretch last night. I might have to give in and see a doctor eventually, or maybe I just need to be a lot better about stretching and icing.

Hoping to do another 4 miles tonight.

Belinda, it was cool and the first time ever in my life I jogged in a sports bra and shorts while looking at Christmas lights! Gotta love that.

Revea, you take care of yourself, girlfriend!

Well, this is my first post in Cool Running...I just started the Couch to 5K and did my second workout for it.

I had to work late today and all I could think of was, "I need to get home to do my second workout". I'm amazed at how relaxed I was when I finished. I think this is going to be a good thing for me to do.

                          My week so far:
                          3miles - Sunday
                          4miles - Monday (~10min/mile)
                          2 miles for time (8:30min/mile)
                          3 miles - slow pace (11 min/mile)

I found a cool new run log spreadsheet:

Check it out -- it has some nice graphing of past results and weekly averages.
