Hi ladies! I'm doing Boot Camp for the next two weeks, which is why I'm MIA around here, but I'm keeping up with my running. I did 4.5 miles last night in the freezing cold. I found an old fleece hat that doubles as a neck gaiter and that helped my lungs a LOT. My hip is sore again today but I'm doing some stretches and its feeling much better.

Re: Cool Running fro the week of December 4th

Oh, Betty I am sooo tired I need to ask you something. If I drop the milage for my training for a bit will it affect my training or what I ahve been able to accomplish??. I think I may be over training and the only way to fix that is rest and lower milage for a bit. I think I will try this for the rest of this week and see if it helps cause with the kids being sick and everything I am struggling right now to get anything done. Today I am gunna run a short run 1 hour, then do some weight training.

I have to allow flexability right.. HE HE

Re: Cool Running fro the week of December 4th

Sarah, definitely take a break if you're feeling worn out. You are really racking up the miles and that's awesome, but don't make yourself sick or drained. I think your plan to cut back mileage for the next week is excellent and I'm sure you'll be raring to go again early next week. Take care of yourself!!

As for me we're getting a winter storm right now. Ice is piling up on the sidewalk and now is one of those days I mourn not having a treadmill. I think I have a dusty exercise video somewhere but it isn't the same as running.

BTW, I'm seeing a sports doctor tomorrow morning about my ongoing hip problems. I'll let you know what he says!

Re: Cool Running fro the week of December 4th

Sarah, I know EXACTLY what you're talking about, girl. When I was really pushing myself upwards to that 40 mile a week point, I got BURNED OUT .. almost said 'to heck with it' all together, but I didn't .. just cut WAY back for awhile and it was the best decision I could have made. I *do* think its not only possible, but very TRUE that we can overtrain our bodies to the point of fatigue and burnout. Perhaps you've found the point you should not push beyond ... if running becomes a chore or a bore, its time to cut it back. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE FUN! Which it is, if you're enjoying yourself. But if you constantly put more and more pressure on yourself, its not fun anymore. Personally, I think you are more than ready for that marathon right now. From what experienced marathoners have told me, if you can run 15 or more miles, you're ready for the BIG ONE.

So for now, my limit is 35 a week, if that. I don't feel guilty for missing a run or for cutting it short. Neither should you. You're not gonna lose ground (pardon the pun) by resting or cutting back. Not at all. In fact, you probably will discover that when you do run, you do better and enjoy it more.

Revea, I'm hoping that snow melts in a hurry so you can get back out there! I know I couldn't own a treadmill ... its just NOT the same!

Re: Cool Running fro the week of December 4th

Thanks Betty That helps a lot really it does you are sooo GRAET ((HUGS))) I do put a lot of pressure on myslef to do better and better. I want to know I can run the distance and I think that's why I ahve been pushing.

I did run today 1 hour I really cranked the speed did an 8 minute mile at the end WOW I was really going it felt good and I was dripping. I really worked my body today I think more then I ahve in a long time.

I think for now I will drop my milage to 38-40 per week when I get up in the 44-45 I just don't feel good like this week and I am too tired doesn't help with the sick kids either. So I ran 6 miles or so today I was really going hard felt good and I almost feel revitalized Weird I still need a nap though.

Wow, Sarah, you know your progress is amazing. I went to see a sports med doctor this morning and he told me that with my mileage (25 -30 mpw) I am considered an 'athlete'. How amazing is that??? For some reason that just blew me away. I've never been an ATHLETE!

WOOOHOO that means I'm an Athelete too How freaken cool is that. I tell people how many miles I run per week and they literally fall over. Most can't belive I can run that far in a week. It's all split up though. I think it may take me a year to lose this last 24 pounds but, so long as I keep shrinking I am all right with that. Slower right now is better less sagging skin.

Girls and Guys, WE ARE ALL ATHLETES! Why? Cuz we're OUT there, doing it, CONSISTENTLY, with dedication and perseverance. That's what athletes do. They don't make excuses, they make progress! TERRIFIC JOB ALL OF US!

Saturday: 15.3 miles on the trail in about 3 hours. Not speedy, but, what the heck! 5 days from my 50th birthday and still going strong!

                              Have a great weekend everyone!
