  • 30 lbs. in 4 1/2 months?

I want to try and reach my goal by the middle of May. I have about 30 lbs. to go to get there. Granted, I am just using this as a rough goal as I know things can fluctuate etc., but is this realistic? I want to start doing exercise (combo of cardio/strength) 6x a week in order to help me get to my goal. Can I do it? Does anyone have any suggestions to help me along the way? Thanks!

your success rate will depend on your hard work and your determination.

DO a clean induction and then move to OWL as you continue your workouts. Pick things you like to do and if you are easily bored mix them up. If you got a gym memebership ask one of the trainers to fix you up with a workout. I get 3 free a yr as part of my membership.

Join a challenge here. Accountablility will help keep you motivated. If you are into vidios the vidiots challenge should be a good one. if not we have many others. All are open and ongoing so just post telling them you are new and want to join,
if you don't have a gym memebership then you can get some dumbells or resistance bands and do the resistance part of your Atkins too,

if you are new to exercise know that your muscle will think you have been attacked and are in danger and wil super hydrate in the beginning so they can save you from that danger. Once they learn that new load you are placing on them is normal they will release the fluids and you will loswe those water pounds so don't panic when the scale goes the wrong way the first week or so.

    Happy low carbing.

How much do you weigh now? How tall are you?

I lost 16 pounds in 4 months, but I only had 30 total to lose ... so it depends on how heavy you are to start with.

And of course, it depends on your resolve to get there!

        Re: 30 lbs. in 4 1/2 months?

Right now I weigh around 176 and I would like to get to around 145 or so (less would be great!). I am 5'7. I would just hate to kill myself working out 6 days a week for 45 mins or so each time to only see a little bit of difference. And I'm not against losing the inches either, if I can get down 2 or 3 dress sizes and the scale doesn't move that much that's fine with me!! It's really the way I look and the clothes I can fit into. I guess I'm just so scared to really push myself and not be rewarded in the end, which would just kill any motivation i would have to continue. (I swear I'm not trying to set myself up for failure, I just know how I can be if I don't see any results and just want to see and hear that it can be done.) Thanks for the help!

Atkins really isn't designed to be a short-term fix .. its a lifestyle change that you have to commit to PERMANENTLY if you want to reap long-term results. Don't be disappointed if you don't lose a certain number of pounds .. unfortunately our bodies aren't like computers that we can program a certain way. You may go for several weeks without a loss, but hang in there .. outwait your body and you will win the war ...

I am aiming for around the same goal as you, but I started out much heavier. In 15 weeks I have lost 23kgs, but I had a big stall foir a bout 4 weeks prior to last week, when I dropped 2 kgs (2.2lbs) in oine week! Even though I was increasing the intensity of my 45 min workout each week, and doing more, I was stalled at about 110kgs. It was getting very frustrating then - whoosh. Don't worry if the scale sticks - go by your clothes. I have dropped from a 24-26 bottom to a 16-18, and from a 26 top to 18-20. It will happen, just make the 5 days a week gym/workout/exercise a routine and you'll really feel the benefits.

you will never know what you can accomplish working out and eating Atkins until you start. give it 14 days of induction chapter 11 just as Dr Atkins asks. if on day 15 you don't like the results find something else and knoew you tried your best.

Oh I am sticking with Atkins as a WOE for life whether the exercise pays off or not! I feel so much better when I'm not eating the carbs that I would never eat another way. I can't take care of my 9 month old if I'm in a carb induced coma!!! I'm just going to give it my best shot and see what happens, but I know that eating low carb is what works for me and I'll always stick with that. Thanks for all the input!
