  • Here's To Some Goals Met, Others Still Waiting To Be Met

Well, 2005 is nearly history and so ends my year long pursuit of miles run.

Initially, I wanted to see if I could run 1,000 miles in 2005 and I achieved that goal on September 24. Then, I decided to shoot for a total of 1,400 miles by the end of the year. I am disappointed to say that I came up 38.7 miles short of that second goal. But .. you know what they say .. if at first you don't succeed ... kick your butt and get back out there next year!

So, starting tomorrow, January 1st .. a new year, a new start, a new goal of 1,500 miles! Yepper, that sounds like a plan! 5 pairs of shoes oughta get me there!

Like they say at Disney World: 'IF YOU CAN DREAM IT, YOU CAN DO IT!'

    Wish me luck!

    Luck!

Wow you ran alot of miles in 2005!! You should put a dollar in a jar for every mile you complete and at the end of the year buy yourself something special (new running shoes for the following year! LOL) or treat yourself to a day at the spa with a massage, pedicure, manicure.....the works!

Congratulations for all the miles you did run!!!

Shirley, Betty will likely wear out 5 pairs of shoes in meeting her 2006 goal of running 1500 miles!

Great goal, Betty! I'm sure you'll do it!

What a great idea!!! And what a great motivator to keep on running! Thanks, girlie!!!

Yes, Sheshy is absolutely right; I replace my running shoes every 300 miles, so 5 pair ought to get me 1500 miles!

Thanks you guys for the encouragement and support; IT MEANS ALOT TO ME!

FIVE pairs of shoes! My my, Betty, running must be more expensive than cycling!
Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',
                      he said, 'Don't count calories.'

Atkins makes exercise mandatory - I took up cycling - see last pics at 203lb.

Probably .. but I don't look at it as expensive .. I view it as preventive .. gotta protect those 50 year old knees, ankles and hips. I can buy alot of shoes for what orthopedic doctors charge.

ttdriver, you are a great inspiration to many of us. Thanks for sharing your successes with the board. Setting such high goals for yourself and crushing the first and almost meeting the extra 400 miles is incredible.

It's good to set SMART goals.
Specific - I will lose 40 pounds, not I will lose some weight
Measurable - pounds, hours of exercise, miles, etc.
Achievable - goals should be challenging but not impossible
Reach - goals must make you push yourself out of your comfort zone and make you stretch/push yourself to reach them
Time oriented - deadlines and milestones are essential for strong motivation

Just my .02 from the business world. I've set my goals and will achieve them this year.

If you shoot for the stars and fall short, you still wind up pretty high.

                            250/245/200

If you continue to do as you've always done, you will continue to get what you've always got.
