  • Re: The Goalie's Challenge Exercise Thread

I'm doing great so far! have made sure i'm at the gym at least 3x a week (though i aim for 4). weather is still cold so no running outside yet..but fhopefully that will change soon --spring does have to arrive eventually right?

Going to start up my piliates regularily this week too. It is the best at home exercise next to running that i have found yet!

Tomorrow i'm going to measure, should be interesting to see if the gym has helped with the inches. It's been about a month since i last measured.

Glad things are going well for you Sadie.
Btw...does pilates involve lots of equipment? I have a friend who swears by it but I keep forgetting to ask him about it...

I do the Winsor Pilates 20 min workout dvd, and all you need is a tv and and dvd player

I know there is pilates that you can take at the gym that does involve equipment, I just do the dvd's. I find the winsor pilates excellent for toning, and since it's only 20 minutes i'm far more likely to do it.

Oh that sounds just up my street! I agree that "short and sweet" are more doable, often. I'll roam ebay/amazon and hope to find a "region 2" dvd of the Windsor workout then. Thanks!

I thought i'd just pop in and post here so we don't fall off the page!

I've been keeping up at least 3days a week at the gym. I'm starting to run outside again, though only for 15 mins or so with the dog, then doing stairclimber/rowing machine at the gym for 15-30 mins.

I'm going to start doing some reading up on HIIT as well to maybe mix things up.

            How is everyone else doing?

i'm good with my stuff. about to get to the half way point of everest. the second half of these bad boy mountains seem to go much better. i so want to earn the award for the mountains. it's been awhile in coming.

jack and i are trying to get in 2 walks a week. he is in the 6 wec and committed to 2 days. so on top of what i do on my own, i've been walking with him. we've been all over this town! lol

jack discovered some stab. ball on demand tv programs and i've been doing those. i want to tape them for my own use. i think the on demand stuff is a limited time frame.

i will say i am back at 125. things got moving a bit this past week and i think the veggie challenge is going to allow me to lose another pound or two. i'm paying attention to nothing right now except my veggie carb count.

Here for a bit of confession, and to check in. Haven't been to the gym, or run in the past 1.5 weeks, my kitchen reno has me running around alot and pretty much exhausted and just too busy. Going to start up next week again though.

OK, confession over, i feel better now LOL.

Might try to get in some pilates though the next couple of days, feeling like i need to be doing something.

it's amazing how a couple days of not doing things can grow into weeks very quickly.

sadie, did you know that a challenge started up for yoga, pilates, stretching in general? don't know if you'd like to join that little group but wanted to make sure you knew about it.

Too right about us all being busy jimmie!!

We've just had a major crisis here, and had to re-do a complete swimming pool double-quick. I feel I could write a book called "How to build a swimming pool in four days with only two days notice" Talk about a rushed job, slaving under the hot sun (temps were in the 100s). Not to mention a huge expense... Good for the weight though.

These days I only seem to get time to dash in to ADBB, hastily check the ADBB posts emails, the double whammy, spotlight... and no time hardly to read or post anywhere else. A bummer. And it promises to go on and on like that up until... oh heavens, dare I say Christmas... ? Sheesh!

Looking forward to a ten day breather in Scotland, on a remote island... just reading, walking, sleeping... in June, if I can get away. Trip to the Aeolian islands got cancelled because of the pool crisis.
Have been sticking with the dog walks and exercise workouts though... getting up even earlier than usual.

                      Ok... vent over!

Sounds like you're steaming ahead, jimmie, with things now your move is over. Great! Looking forward to seeing the virtual mountains award in your siggy!

How's everyone else doing? How's the kitchen coming along Sadie?

My kitchen is the exact opposite of your pool: how to turn a one month kitchen renovation into a 3 month nightmare LOL.

Like you Sally I haven't had much time for exercise. And the terrible thing is i'm not eating as well as i would be if i actually had a kitchen to cook in! I can barbecue, but have no counters for preparing anything like salads etc. I have to do everything ont he top of my stove (which is not plugged in so no cooking on that either). It's become a pain. I'm more or less living on rye crispbreads with tuna, yogurt, cottage cheese, ready bagged salads, celery and pb. then at night i grill a meat for dinner. it doesn't sound like a bad diet, till you eat it every day, then it gets a bit annoying . Basically everything has to be just put-it-on-the-plate ready.

The painting is done though..so we'll be putting int he cupboards soon, then 3 week wait for my counter (it's granite..so it takes a while).

I'm hoping once i get my life back in order i'll start up my running again. maybe even next week. the nice weather is finally here, not too hot, not too cold. I would have even run this week, but my body is aching from all the painting..i figure that coun'ts as some exercise.

Awww Sadie... I know what it's like when you have your house or part of it (particularly the kitchen) turned upside down. A real nightmare. I can just imagine how you're doing "camping cooking". It'll be so worth it when you're done though, and you'll be relieved to get back on track.

Our pool is done structurally... but the surrounding area is still a complete mess. Lots to do there. Though it was good exercisewise... it wasn't so good foodwise, as the builder's wife would bring a huge Italian lunch every day! She's terrific, and does things specially for me...but the amounts were crazy and after all the hard work it was just bliss to sit down under the pergola and eat...too much! Gotta cut back before going to Scotland, for sure!

i feel badly for both of you. my move was a low carb cheesecake walk compared to either of you dilema's.

you know, jack use to build pools. gunite and vinyl liner types. he would understand perfectly the 100 degree weather. he drank a pool full of water during those times!

it sounds like both of you are getting workouts even if it's not a run or the usual routine. sadie, i hope you can start getting some runs in and sal, i hope thing can get finished out so you don't miss your holiday.

i've invited our new goalie, Katlambert, to come join us.

Interesting that Jack used to build pools! I feel for him if he had to work in the heat often. Down in the tanks it gets horrendous .

We had to change this pool from a French style pool with no skimmers or drain...well, nothing that made holes in the tank... to a traditional type. It meant digging underneath the entire structure, then making the pool a lot shallower (it was too deep anyway), putting in skimmers etc... and changing the lining. With the new filtration system and pump it was a total new pool, bar the "tank" (sorry I don't know the correct English terms... just the Italian ones!).
I'm amazed the French sell so many of their pools... we found ours to be a dud right from the word go, as opposed to our other house's pool (now sold to buy in the Aeolians) which never gave us any problems. With this one it was having to do the work unexpectedly and in a huge rush (bookings already in) that was the main prob.

Boy, do I hate, hate, hate pools... but then that's our work, so...needs must!

yeah, he had to get down in them. he hated building them because of the heat. this was in the south so the heat was horrid and when your standing in the deep end of a gunite pool which is 8 10 to 15 feet deep in the middle of summer in florida, it ain't a fun. he would come home exhausted and drained. the liner pools were just as bad. there just isn't any air flow and the heat beating down on you is very bad. i've been down in them too, as he would need help from time to time.

because of hurricanes, he built the same pool 3 times. it was right on the beach and when the sand got washed away, the pool would crack. there was nothing you could do but build it again.

i'll have to tell jack what ya'll had to do. he's gonna say "glad it wasn't me!". i can remember him having to crawl under condos so the plumbing could done on a pool. that was nasty too. hot sweaty humid sand, not a good mix.

i think jack likes you just cause you hate pools. lolol
he used to have a business of cleaning pools, too. i hated that!
all of this experience has taught jack 1 superior lesson..... he NEVER wants a pool.
