I saw this thread and wanted to jump in. I too have started running. I am following the C25K from Cool Running. I'm only on Day 2 Week 1. I had tried this several times and ended up with PF. I had to have therapy because it was that severe. I took a long time off, lost 10 lbs. and decided to get back into it. I love it.

So I ran at a 2% incline it really hard had some trouble so I was trying to go for 13 But after i hour I had to rest so I did 5 miles GRRR. I will have to start basically from scratch again and build my milage doign the 2%. And also I got my mind made up for the Marathin. I am somewhat pissey about it but, I will be doing the Half. My daughters have their dance recital on the very same day so I will run the half then go to see them dance in the afternoon. I don't want to miss it and if I run the full I will no doubtedly wanna fall over dead so I will do the Half and be happy with that even know I had my heart set on the Full. Maybe I can find one somewhere close to do in August or something I HOPE!!

Re: Cool Running for the week of January 15, 2006

                  Hey girls!

I have been so busy with my new job--haven't had much time for posting, but have been running, although various injuries have knocked out some of my training during the week. Mostly, I generally need more recovery time after some of the Saturday long runs...Our biggie was 2 weeks ago when we ran the RunTex 20-miler race--OH MY GOSH! It was 2 10 mi loops, and the winds were out that day--upwards of almost 40mph headwinds--on all parts of the course! I was doing OK the first 15 mi, a little slower because my running partner was coming off a weeklong bout of strep w/antibiotics and was really weak. I had to slow down several times for her to catch up. Finally, I was about 1.5 mi ahead of her--very lonely, so about 14 mi or so, I decide to stop at a water stop and stretch, and wait for her to catch up--I waited 5 MIN! BAD MOVE--my legs began to cool down, and the PAIN began--my entire right leg was one big throb of pain--and about 15.5 mi my IT Band went out on me--just like my pedorthist said it would...After that, I limped/walked/ran the final stretch, so it took me 4:19:00. If I had kept my easy 11:30 pace from the first 14.8 mi, I would have finished around 3:40:00 or so...bummer--however, I FINISHED, which is more than I can say for several who registered for the 20-mi, then wimped out after the fist loop and went down the 10 mi finish chute...What made me feel better about it all was all of the reports about how difficult that race was--even my coaches, one with 32 marathons/2 ultras under her belt and the other with 26 marathons said it was the worst/hardest run they had ever had...They both said our marathon experience would be much better...I am encouraged. Last Sat. we ran 11 mi--my knee was killing me from 2 mi on...I did finish in 2:03:00, so not too terrible...We did 9 mi yesterday--I ran in my new orthotics, so will take some getting used to--still had some knee pain, but better--1:45:03, so again, not too bad--we're trying to take it slower, as everybody has been saying train at a pace 2:00/mi slower than your goal marathon pace...We have our 21-miler with Austin Fit this next Sat., and then we taper...the marathon is less than a month away--yikes! That 20 miler did so much for my mental confidence, for sure--AND, my nutrition is top notch--no problem there, at all--everybody else was taking gels, etc--no sirreeee!

Great running Betty! You'll do really well!

Keep it up Sarah! You'll get back in the swing in no time!
