  • How far should you go?

Hey everyone i got a little question. Im 118Kg at the moment but i can still manage to do a 5-10Km Jog most days

I've been told to only do about an hours exercise a day (i'll prob reach 2.5Km). My question is if you can handle more than i should just do it yeah?

Who told you so? And why?

If you are very heavy you might strain your joints jogging. But fo you can handle more, well, go for it. If your doctor told you to avoid specific ways of exercise, by all means listen to your doctor. You might want to add strength / weight / resistance training or different workout types.

Please tell us a little more about yourself, age, size, gender... your lifestyle, your goals...

I just picked it up here and there. Every time you watch something about dieting or read about it, it’s always "One hour a day."

I’m 16, Male. Live in Australia. I used to weigh 130Kg but I have no idea why I stoped dieting. My goal is to reach 80Kg by the end of the year.

I’m so big because of 3 main things.

      1. My dad owned a restaurant and we used to live above it. So everyday after cleaning up, he was just too tired to cook. So it was Mc Donald’s every nite for dinner for as long as I can remember.

      2. My parents never actually taught me how to eat healthy.

      3. They never got me involved in sports.

But I’m old enough now to know that only I can fix my self now.

An hour a day is what is recommended for most "couch potatoes". If you are in shape and active, you can handle much more than that.

I've been running since Nov 2003 and I can easily run 4 hours at a time .. and I'm 50!

As long as there doesn't seem to be any joint pain....go for it. I used to exercise 3-4 hours while training and once you are used to it...it's no big deal.

Hello, Garilla, nice to 'meet' another Aussie. Good on you for taking charge of your health. Just listen to your body. Don't go out thinking I will jog/run this far today. Keep at a comfortable pace and if you fell tired or are hurting, slow down. Overexercise injury is commonest when starting out for us former fat folk (I say former because we have all made the decision to do something about it) so be careful. See my post to LC Dave re pedometer. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ad.php?t=24373

            Good luck!
