Effie, congrats on the super finish!! That's fantastic, girl!!! Dang, makes me wish I was 20-something again!! Oh well, better to become a runner at 50, than never at all, aye?

I ran 6.3 tonight .. I hope to do 4 nights of 6.3 this week and then a 12 miler on Saturday. That would be a good week's worth.

Okay .. off to the exercise ball .. 110 crunches comin' at me!

Tuesday: Normally a rest day for me, but I decided to shake things up a little this week. 6.3 miles in 1 hour 10 minutes. When I stop sweating, I'm gonna do my 110 crunches on the ball and do my upper body weights.

Sarah, I am so sorry to hear about the Gout! That is so weird. After having not heard of gout for years, in the past three weeks you and my cousin (he's in the Army and in GREAT shape) have both been diagnosed. I swear it was something old fashioned - a Dickens disease - but then I thought bursitis was the same and I have that in my hip! Geez.

I'm still at it, albeit gingerly this week with our snow and ice. The last thing I want to do now is injure myself outdoors, so I've been taking it easy. There are still 13 weeks to go before my half, and I'm sure I'll make it, and then in the summer I'll start my marathon training. I'm looking forward to it - it appeals to the part of me who likes to plan things!

For some reason all of the sudden I'm in very high ketosis again, and my appetitie has totally disappeared. I'm forcing myself to eat some turkey and cheese right now as a snack, but I could live without it, and last week I was simply starving to death. Isn't that weird?

Hope you're all doing well! Sarah, feel better!!

New to ADBB, posted as BigDaddy2 on another very unsupportive board.

Back on Atkins as of end of January.

Working on a 30-35 miles per week base to follow with a marathon
                            training program starting in July.

Finished first marathon last October. Came back to Atkins to finally
lose this weight, keep it off, and improve my running.

Yesterday's run was 6 miles. Doing low heart rate base building training
right now. All miles below 70% heart rate. Currently, that means 13:35 minutes per mile . Should start getting faster in the coming weeks.

This is not really about running, but I wanted to talk about it here because it has upset me so much.

I have a friend, a dreadfully, morbidly obese friend who was told by her Doctor last week that her liver is failing due to her poor diet. She's really kind of pointedly ignored my weight loss - never asking about it or anything - and so I've kept pretty quiet around her. Out of desperation she came to me after her doctors' appt and asked for my help. Well, naturally I told her exactly what to do. I preached a sermon that would have made you all say Amen! and I meant every word. I told her that, honestly, I thought she could really take control of her life and health this way, and I told her I'd help and we'd walk together (I was going to do that in addition to running, just to help out) and she agreed. And then yesterday I came in to work to see her eating four bagels, and she said she'd changed her mind, because "I don't think I can give up my bread and sugar. I'd have to go through a mourning period of at least a month and eat all I wanted before I could do that." I WANTED to say "better a mourning period for bread than FOR YOUR OWN LIFE, but instead I was supportive and told her that she wasn't giving all bread up for life, just until she got things under control and then as she went up the OWL ladder she could add some good carbs back in. She parried me every time with some excuse, and eventually I gave in. I can't do it for her. She has to make the decision and I can't drag her in, but oh my gosh, to care about someone who is *killing* theirself over a bagel. I mean, I love 'em too, for heavne's sake, but her doc is giving her a year or two to live unless she has gastric bypass or changes her lifestyle.

Ugh. Sorry, that has just blown me away today!
