  • Question...discrepency in treadmill and fitday

    Hey guys,

Why is it when I run 2 miles on the treadmill it's calories burned is around 240 and fitday is around 140? The treadmill says I burn more than firday? Am I crazy?

Many treadmills have computer programs that take your weight, incline, speed, and length of time to calculate your calories burned. Fitday, I believe, only uses time, distance, and intensity.

Exactly what Fluffyman said. The treadmill that I use will take into account your weight and incline.

So much so that if you fail to enter your weight before the run, it wont calculate the calories burnt.

So which is the one I should go by?

I've noticed a big difference too and the machines I use take into account what FM and Rich said. I go by what the machine says rather than using Fit Day numbers.

If you are entering your weight into the treadmill, it will be the more accurate reading.

Personally, I don't trust any sort of machine to tell me how many calories I burn. I do, however, trust my Polar heart rate monitor implicitly (and no, I don't work for Polar!)

The machines at my gym use Polar heart rate monitors on the handles. Is that different than what you are talking about? If so, do you think the ones used on the machines are not accurate?
